Title: Swindon Vs Tranmere MotM Thread
Post by: Nemo on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, 21:38:08
Well, 87 very frustrating minutes followed by ten minutes of... beautiful madness.

Who gets your vote?

Think this will probably go to a sub. I think Butterworth was at the centre of the turnaround, even though it took a bit longer to come.

Tshimanga for impact alone

Tshimanga. Played a part in all 3 goals and looked dangerous when he came on.

Tshimanga and Glatzel finally kicked us up the ass when we were running out of time.

Went for Tshimanga.

Got a bit of luck with deflections but Tshimanga's movement was fantastic for the 2 he "assisted".

Magnificent cameo appearance from him.

It's an interesting question who you'd go for out of the starters. Clarke?

I think that Butterworth gave us believe.

Smith had a poor game, but how he got in position and scored his goal was class

Or Wright. Kilkenny not quite on it. Fotmob has Smith as MOM

Probably Killkenny but none of the starters did a great deal apart from Smith with the goal.

But probably Bycroft last followed by Cotterill.

It's Butterworth for me. Absolutely sparked us into life from the moment he came on. All the subs did well

It’s weird. So used to subs being the harbinger of doom it’s difficult to comprehend them coming on and making a difference.

I went for Butterworth but I also thought Nichols quietly had a very good game...

He did all the bits that didn't involve shooting pretty well, but suddenly his boots swapped feet whenever he was in a position to get a shot away.

I voted for Butterworth as he brought some attacking impetus after a turgid 1st half.
Tshimanga did similarly when he came on, also Nichols. Of the starters I thought Kilkenny was ok too.

All 3 subs worth a shout. All helped change the game.

Getting the ball away seems to be the biggest issue in his game. He's so difficult to stop when he runs at defences but whether its passing, crossing or shooting there's no end product.
Then, if he could do that as well he'd probably be playing at a higher level.

Tshimanga is my choice for making the difference with 2 eel-like  assists and of course a a cool pen.

Butterworth was critical in changing us from turgid to turbo.

Butterworth.
Needed somebody to run at Tranmere & that's what he did.
If only he could be a tad more consistent, maybe Holloway can find the key.

Speaking of which, a masterclass in timing of & use of subs today & getting them to make a difference as well.

Clearly Cameron Norman's ridiculous second yellow changed the game but Butterworth's introduction for me added some drive and impetus. Actually all of the subs had an influence. Saw glimpses of the clever player Nicholls is. Smith got his poachers goal. Fair play to Holloway for making the changes that worked. As well as the grit and determination to keep going and not only get the equaliser, but the winner and the icing on the cake third.

I don’t really know why Cotterill takes the brunt of the bad comments on here he’s a footballer who ties to play football in a shit football team let’s be honest guys we’re poor he very rarely loses the ball unlike most of team every time the kid passes the ball it gets hoofed up field to no body . Our footballing style is pass the ball to the keeper and he lumps the ball upfront it’s shit football and don’t do nothing for our midfield especially Cotterill who has been brought through the ranks at Swansea from the age of 7 and learnt to play passing football not hoof ball .if I was him I want to go somewhere else as this style of football isn’t doing him any favours.

Hi Joel’s dad…

Cotterill gets negative comments because he doesn’t play particularly well.
He was extremely poor under Kennedy (more Kennedy’s fault than his)
He has been better under Holloway (as they all have) but he lacks consistency in the middle (same could be said for Butterworth & Kilkenny too) that’s probably why Holloway has rotated / changed them.

Don’t get me wrong - I’m in no rush to see the back of him but I don’t think I’d lose any sleep if he left either…

Just to add, I thought Cotterill wasn't good last night either. Surprised he wasn't hooked to be honest. Tends to have 1 very good game in 4 or 5.

I guess because we were basically only attacking and the only other midfield option on the bench was Ofoborh?

If Cox doesn’t go off (injured?) at HT then Butterworth would have probably replaced Cotterill at some point in the second half

Smith. He wins his headers and never gives the ball away, plus he scored.

He's not perfect but he literally never shies away or hides, he always wants the ball. Brilliant attitude.

Lurpak for me, changed the game in an attacking way that we just didnt have first half, Sobo and Smith both good.

I can honestly say I didn't realise Cotterill was playing until about minute 30.

Butterworth for his impact from the second he got on the pitch. Looked knackered towards the end though so needs a bit more running to sharpen him up even further.

The way Nichols can turn, shimmy was pretty nice to watch, once he's up to speed I think he will help create, not 100% on how robust he is or how much he will lend to the defensive side of things, but there is a player in there for sure.

Westley.....looked a little lost last night if I'm honest. Probably didn't like/not used to the brutality being dished out by the over enthusiastic opposition. Keep him on the bench next game please and use as an impact sub.

Butterworth for the way he changed the game. Honourable mention for Tshimanga, I've been a critic as he spends more time on the floor but he was very good last night.
Sobowale was terrible, doesn't seem confident to attack his man and takes too long to decide if he is going to cross the ball.
