Post by: Nemo on Saturday, August 3, 2024, 18:04:28
Well, pre-season's done and this time next week we'll already be 24 hours into the season. Squad doesn't look finished, but we said that last year and then signed nobody else bar Brooklyn Genesini. Here's last year's for your entertainment: https://thetownend.com/index.php?topic=59668.0

League Two
League Two winners:
Promoted:
Playoffs:
Who's going down?:

As ever, I'll add up the predictions to a hive mind table and we can see how we do - not too bad overall last time, bar the Crawley miss, but everyone got that one wrong including Crawley fans!

Not the top20 pod predict 16th - although they couldn’t really justify it. I reckon it depends how we do with injuries.

I think if he scores anywhere near enough to be in the conversation by January then he’ll be long gone by the end of the window so makes it a sticky bet

Maybe, but if he signs for Chesterfield or Franchise he could still be L2 top scorer ;)

So nobody has much faith in Clem batting away offers in January!

I guess it depends on what chances we have, look at last season we effectively gave up at Christmas as we thought we had enough to stay up, but had little chance of getting in the top 7 so went for the cheap option (Gav).

I think even if we’re challenging at the top on a knife edge, the club will take what offers they get for Glatzel in Jan, it’s what this club does. All my opinion of course

Title: Re: League Two Predictions 24/25

Hope many years on the contract are there?

1 year I agree, we would cash in. 2 years and I think it's more difficult.

Hope we get to see to be honest. Because to be in the top 7 come January would be a dream .

Title: Re: League Two Predictions 24/25
Post by: Nemo on Monday, August 5, 2024, 16:19:15
We don't know for sure, but considering it was one of the contracts we 'took over' I'd be surprised if it was more than a year's option.

Title: Re: League Two Predictions 24/25

I fully expect Glatzel to be gone in the next 4 weeks, for the simple reason I don’t think they know what to do with him in this first 11 and he is better than a bench warmer.

Title: Re: League Two Predictions 24/25
Post by: UTR on Monday, August 5, 2024, 16:28:35
I agree, I think it’s difficult for a well functioning, normal club.

But from what we’ve seen, I hold little hope that the club looks any further than making to the next window, if that. So if Glatzel has a fast start and someone tries a bid over 100k, I can see them snatching at it (depending on what sell on % there is to Liverpool).

Apologies I may just be talking from a defeated as a fan angle here but even a unexpected, lucked out promotion would bring immediate question marks of “how the hell are we going to survive next season” because the outside image of this club (which may well be wrong) is that there’s no long term plan to any of our footballing decisions.

Nothing changes unfortunately until we get a change of ownership which don’t look like anytime soon

Therefore mediocrity is the best we can hope for

From what I remember Crawley were everyone’s favourite for relegation last season.

Surely we can be optimistic until proven otherwise.

If Kennedy can't figure out how to get Glatzels functioning in a league 2 side then that's certainly worrying.

It does seem they are leaning towards a Drinan and Smith partnership and trying to replicate their purple patch together at Orient.

Fuck me if nothing else he definitely needs a proof reader, apart from that not sure it says a great deal. Bar coming across as some sort of Franchise fan fiction at the start it seems completely random in comparing what he is saying about each club and where he thinks they will finish. As with all these things I'm never convinced that people have the knowledge of lower league players they claim to have.

As for this season, based purely on the principle that whenever I think we will do OK we are invariably shite and vice versa I suspect we will be OK and possibly surprise a few?

Spot on, take it with a pinch of salt it’s just another opinion from someone who is guessing and doesn’t know anymore than the rest of us. As for STFC it’s more hope than expecting to do well this season.

Yeah not brilliant. Donny may get promoted which may scrape some of the ouef off the visage. Play offs is possibly 3 from 4, but my Carlisle shout, oof!

What was I smoking?  Doncaster, Port Vile or Colchester might go up, but a 9th place finish, that ain't going to happen.
Expect Glatzel to move on, a nothing season for him but has the ability to do well. Didn't see Carlisle's struggle coming, they may just make it but will have to play out of their skins for the remaining games.
