Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Posh Red on Friday, June 21, 2024, 10:24:49 Sad news, was my favourite player in that team, so much so that my son is named after him ( Andrew, not Rowland).
RIP Andy, Andy Rowland 😢 Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Robinz on Friday, June 21, 2024, 10:39:24 Oh dear.
Great player for STFC RIP Andy Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: adje on Friday, June 21, 2024, 10:44:47 Legend in the true sense of the word. Fantastic player
Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: GTXMagnatec on Friday, June 21, 2024, 10:49:40 Very sad news. Never saw him play for Town but as a young fan in the early 1990's I remember him being a very approachable and friendly man at Open Days and always happy to chat.
Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Legends-Lounge on Friday, June 21, 2024, 11:01:11 Oh dear, that’s very sad.

Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, June 21, 2024, 11:28:23 Such sad news, a true great for Swindon in the true meaning of it. A great player and servant to the club. RIP Andy, loved watching you play.
Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: RedRag on Friday, June 21, 2024, 11:40:22 Saw the heading and feared the worst. RIP to a true STFC legend. A real hero of mine as a young man following on from the likes of the late Dave Syrett, Peter Eastoe and so on. You'd love to have played off him as a striker and he and Mayes were that a special combination. What an extended weekend that 8-0 v Bury and 4-3 v Arsenal was!
Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Swindon Please Win on Friday, June 21, 2024, 11:43:52 RIP Andy, really sad news.

Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Bedford Red on Friday, June 21, 2024, 11:55:45 RIP Andy.
The 78-79 season was the first season I was properly into football so I remember all those players well. Mayes and Rowland, what a fantastic strike paring. Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Audrey on Friday, June 21, 2024, 11:56:49 Not the kind of news I wanted while on holiday.
What a great player he was for us. Good night, fella. Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, June 21, 2024, 11:59:37 The first time Rowland became known to the rest of the football world, after scoring this goal on Match Of The Day in April 79 vs Watford in the near top of the table clash. Handy Andy Rowland.

Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: kirky69 on Friday, June 21, 2024, 12:09:10 RIP "Andy Andy Rowland". A loyal servant of the club both as a player and later in various management roles. His partnership with Alan Mayes was very much the little and large combination and a joy to watch. Will never forget the league cup run to the semi final in the 1979/80 season and particularly that magnificent 4-3 win against Arsenal, with Rowland scoring the winner in extra time. A true legend.

Handy Andy Rowland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOo58OESKxY My all time joint favourite Swindon player. Just lucky to have met him and had a great chat. He was a true legend and played during my favourite time supporting Swindon, real sadness with his passing. RIP. Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: cdakev on Friday, June 21, 2024, 12:26:42 RIP Andy. Fantastic player. Great partnership with Alan Mayes.
Never forget the game against Arsenal or Burnley away where he went in goal Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Peter Venkman on Friday, June 21, 2024, 12:33:33 RIP Andy. Fantastic player. Great partnership with Alan Mayes. IIRC didnt Handy Andy go in goal when Jimmy Allen had his career ending arm break in 1983 as well vs Rochdale? in goal for the entire 2nd half?Never forget the game against Arsenal or Burnley away where he went in goal Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: RobertT on Friday, June 21, 2024, 12:44:32 Yes, one of my first proper memories of being at a football game as a kid. Used to pop into the Plough with my Dad later in life and he was basically one of the regulars more than a landlord. Would pop out and leave the place to them chaps at the bar. RIP Andy.
Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Wobbly Bob on Friday, June 21, 2024, 12:59:52 Very sad news. Great servant of the club.

Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Jimmy Quinn on Friday, June 21, 2024, 17:43:42 As a young lad I skipped school to ensure I was one of the 7000+ Town fans that traveled to Highbury in 79 and would have know idea that Andy Rowland would eventually give me my best ever Swindon Town memory

Supporting Swindon then no comparison to now, nowhere near. The best days standing in the TE. If only the 1-1 draw had some footage. To see that Billy Tucker goal again would be incredible, I was crushed under a mass of bodies and to this day I still believe the Clock End moved. The support that night was superb. The tubes packed with Swindon and then that late equaliser in our end.⚽️ Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: Jimmy Quinn on Friday, June 21, 2024, 18:45:06 What a night in North London. I can remember climbing the floodlight near the burger stall in the Townend during extra time. I’ve also tried numerous places over the years even a Arsenal forum to try and get footage of Billy Tuckers header but never had any joy. Title: Re: Andy Rowland Post by: MGF on Saturday, July 27, 2024, 19:39:01 As many have recollected, Andy Rowland was a gentleman of our club and deserves the highest level of respect.
Met him many times when I was younger and he always put me at ease and was friendly and courteous. I'm grateful I was able to cross paths with him. |
