Title: John Trollope
Post by: sir windon on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, 01:08:01
Is it the case that his appearance record was broken by Dean Lewington on Boxing Day?

Yes.

Nope. Trollope's was for one club only.  Lewington has played for two.

His appearances for the record are all for franchise.

Not sure why people keep saying this…

He’s beaten the record with this MK appearances only, fair and square.

And on that basis, I take my hat off to him, as I’m sure JT does too.

Nope, he played for Wimbledon. Different club.  Milton Keynes acknowledge that too.

He has played for Franchise 771 times. That beats JT’s record.

His 29 apps for Wimbledon are on top of that.

Ah. That makes it interesting.

Trollope's record is league games having only ever played for one club.  Giggs came close.

Yes, Lewington has beaten Trollope for 770.

Lewington has played more league games for MK than Trollope played Swindon.

It’s not that difficult to grasp.

Only ever playing for one club shouldn't be that hard to comprehend either, but here we are.

The record had nothing to do with “only ever playing for one club.”

It was the most league appearances for one club. Lewington has beaten it.

The fact he also played 29 games for Wimbledon is totally immaterial.

Yes, but Trollope still holds the record for most appearances for one club and one club only.  That was the point I was making.

No. He. Does. Not.

I give up. Too painful.

No he does not.

Trollope holds the record for most league appearance for one club whilst only having played a complete game for that one club.

Lewington holds the record for most league appearances for one club.

Yeah, I missed out the word league.

Yeah, I missed out the word league.

JT 889 STFC appearances in all competitions
Lewington 892 MK appearances in all competitions

Trollope does have a better goals to game ratio though of a goal every 31.75 games (all comp) compared to Lewington a goal every 37.17 games.

League wise they’ve both scored 21 goals over their 770 & 771 games respectively.

I imagine JT has played more minutes over his appearances that Lewington has…

Yeah yeah but Trollope was better than Lewington. That's all that matters!🙂

Yeah... Trollope made his debut in 1960....5 years before substitutes were even invented...
