I still think England will qualify and do alright when they get there.  I don't think they are good enough to win it though.  Too much expectation, too much pressure, a glorious failure is the best that will happen.

I could be wrong though, you never know.

What makes MacLaren have this amazing reputation?  I don't really rate him.

Unfortunately the likes of Curbishley and Alllardyce don't have sufficient experience of anything other than English football to be viable candidates.....there's a world of differnce in getting to 6 or 7th in the prem with the less than cauldron like atmosphere of mid table expectations and  managing England.

 There are no serious English contenders at the moment.

On the football side of things perhaps not. But when you consider what he said about disabled people I think it was perhaps justified.

I don't think so, even if you completely disagree with his opinions it's no reason to sack a football manager. Other clubs were still happy to employ him, he didn't deserve the sack.

Reg is right, there's no English candidates good enough. Appointing Allardyce, Curbishley or McLaren would be a disaster of Kevin Keegan proportion.

On a more serious note, Jan is right. Quite what the england managers religous views (however misguided they may be) have to do with his ability to coach and manage the team is beyond me.

Plenty of diasbled people voiced their opinions at the time that they couldnt really give a fuck what he thinks, and rightly so too.

I'd go for Big Sam out of the choices at the top. I'm hoping Stuart Pearce turns into a top manager, early days yet.

But, Hoddle for me as well.

Big Sam should never get anywhere near England manager for me, although I think he'd be a good assistant as he's always seeking to use new technology to help him.

I think big sam could do a good job.... you saw where bolton were when he took over... now look at them, expected to finish around the UEFA cup spots.... thats not bad going
