They lost their ball in my garden, I couldn't find it so I gave them three  :D

Mate said that after the Old Trafford test every park they went past in Manchester was full of kids playing cricket.

The game has been threatening to come alive for quite some time.

That's great news, hopefully it won't just be a passing phase like Rugby was.

I remember playing cricket in the summers as a little'un whilst my Dad sat and watched the Ashes...

nostalgia sucks

Good to hear that kind of thing.
Kinda used to that living in Goatacre where cricket is a religioni but it is good to hear that people are getting more interested. It could be great for the future of the game.

But then again this is like the FA Cup Final of cricket, except it doesn't happen so often! :D

i read an article by bobby robson in the papers today saying the premiership so far this season has been awful. 16 goals in 10 games, so many teams playing defensively. attendances are down because its starting to get boring.

at least with our league you get some entertainment, alright its not the best quality of football but thats not the point 30+ goals in 12 games played in league 1 this weekend. i know what i'd rather be watching......

Lets be honest the premiership has been dull since about May 1994. Personally I think it has improved over the last couple of seasons purely because Arsenal and Man United are no longer winning anything which is clearly the best thing that has ever happened to the premiership as it was fucking intolerable when they were.

The Ashes has been very good entertainment to be fair but football is entertaining in a different way, the tension is normally all in short periods which makes it even more exciting. 5 minutes to go in a crucial game with just one goal in it, happens all the time in football but cricket only a few games are that close.

Certainly captured the imagination of the hacks. Even staunch footy tabloids like the Star and the Sun have had Ashes coverage on the back 3, 4, 5 pages.

You can tell Woolly (Stars top sport man) doesnt really want to cover the football, he wants to be at the Ashes.

And quite rightly so, we are after all on the verge of basically being crowned the best test side in the world.

It'll be like the Rugby World Cup when we won it. Everyone jumps on the bandwagon for a couple of months but many will jump off it just as quickly. How many of the new 'followers' will care when we are travelling India and Pakistan in the winter? However, the thing cricket has going for it over the brief riugby phenomona is that it's a summer sport and a great day out rather than standing in the freezing cold.

But come the winter its back to sky sports, I think that the ashes being on C4 and being accessible to everyone has had something to do with the huge interest.

I went to Weston Super Mud sunday and everyone on the beach was playing cricket, I was loitering near people hoping to get a catch!

Cricket is also easier to play here. There are sooooo many teams around you can't fail to find one if you want to play.

I will not be following the winter tour much because I don't have Sky and am hardly able to get there myself!!!

I agree that cricket on C4 has played a big part in gaining interest in the sport, and it will be a shame for it to go to Sky.

There's always the radio R4E....which has long been the case for tours abroad...pre Sky

I thought you'd finished school.....don't you go to some sort of FE college in Wilts?

Grow your hair stick in an ear piece and no-one will notice.
