Title: Yet another IT query!!
Post by: red sheldon on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, 10:14:45
On my laptop it came with one of those free office lookalike things, and I had MS Office on it as well, but for some reason whenever I tried to open documents which were attachments or download things from the google drive it always defaulted to the non MS version.

So a couple of weeks ago I had a bright idea!!!!  If i deleted this then it would go to word or excel instead...  However now it either wont let me open the document at all or it does it in wordpad..

Any help would be appreciated, I still have the MS Office so thats not gone but I'm struggling

You need to associate the file extensions (probably .doc, .docx etc.) with the program you want to open them with (in this case MS Office)

In order to set your default programs: (Assuming Windows)

Open Default Programs by clicking the Start button , and then clicking Default Programs or search for it.
Click Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
Click the file type or protocol that you want the program to act as the default for. (.doc, .docx, .xls, etc.)
Click Change program.
