Title: Police in town this pm
Post by: wiggy on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, 18:29:41
Coming out of the Fleming Way car park this pm I couldn't get up towards Old Town and had to go across to the County Ground and up from there. Police at every junction directing traffic.

Turns out someone had jumped from the bridge behind the Wyvern.

Pretty sure I read someone was injured jumping off the car park
Didn't realise was dead

He's only injured.

Annoying. People who want to commit suicide which affects others are selfish. For example, jumping off a bridge onto moving traffic.

Happy new year!

People who jump off bridges aren't thinking right though. Not sure that's selfish, just mental

Exactly.

It's fucking tragic that someone could possibly feel that low, my heart just goes out to them. Always astounds me that people want to criticise someone in that frame of mind.

If traffic congestion et al is more important to you than the well being of others I suppose that's a logical conclusion..

When you think about it, depression and getting to the point of wanting to die is selfish, but it's a selfishness state of mind that the individual would not want to be in.

There are two guys - brothers - who sit just along from me in the DRS.  They never miss a game but were not there for the Fleetwood game, turns out their other brother had committed suicide the day before!!  Felt for them when they told me.

It's the people they leave behind, that's when the real torture starts..

Lost my best Mate years ago.
So very sad, sorry but I don't believe anyone can question anyone else.
Comes across selfish I know but desperation is a powerful pressure to control for many people.
Sadly the people left behind pick up the pieces.

Selfish?  I think you would have to be very brave to go through with it as long as your were sober and not drugged up!

I can't imagine the mental state these poor fuckers are in.....being selfish is probably the last thing going on in their heads.

If they really wanted to commit suicide the car park roof would have been a better choice. That bridge is not that high so looks like more a cry for help.

If I ever reach such a low point that I decide to take my own life, I will spend the weeks leading up to my suicide devising a plan that ensures my death causes maximum disruption to your morning commute. That way I'll be able to go out with a smile on my face.

And we'll be able to watch it all on Youtube, courtesy of Sippo's dashcam.

Ha ha. Yeah alright.

It's not the commute that's the issue here. What if a bus full of passengers were to have an accident because of it? What if it was a family driving under the bridge and had to swerve? Think of it like that.

All you've done there is create an imaginary scenario to justify your stupid opinions. It's like me saying, ' yeah, but what if Ghandi stabbed a puppy in the face! Think about that!'. You should be a Daily Mail columnist.

Hardly imaginary. It's a possibility. When someone wants to end their life, they don't think of others. That's not their fault per se, as their minds are obviously blinkered.

So, they're not selfish then? You got there in the end.

Selfish : (Of a person, action, or motive) lacking consideration for other people; concerned chiefly with one’s own personal profit or pleasure

It would be selfish if it weren't for the last caveat.

Inconsiderate, fucked up, mindless, yes. Its certainly horrible for those left behind, those directly but unwittingly involved  (train drivers, etc ) and the clean up crews (when required)

My wifes uncle was a train driver who had someone jump in front of him, that was 25 years ago, he's barely been on the right side of sane since.

I keep reading this thread despite the fact it makes me want to repeatedly bash my head against a brick wall. If I broke the wall would it be selfish?

It depends on whether it makes Sippo late for work.
