Title: Plug
Post by: Honkytonk on Sunday, December 7, 2014, 23:30:03
I was tempted to put 'butt plug' as clickbait but decided not to.

I've nearly finished my (first) novel, and have put up the first half of it on Authonomy - you can download it for your kindle/e-reader or read it on the website.

You can either click the link in my signature below, or just click here if you're really that fucking lazy. (http://www.authonomy.com/book/52146/)

Insults/appreciation/opinions/nominations for the booker prize welcome, but that's not to say I'll listen to any of it you bunch of cunts.

What's it about?

"In a rebellious, alternate 19th Century America, a British officer tries to win and stay alive when caught up in a dark web of ambition and betrayal.

Sam Spencer is a captain in the redcoated army of the British Empire, deployed in North America. In an alternate 19th century, one in which the Mongol hordes erased every trace of the knowledge of gunpowder from existence, he is part of an army on the back foot, one losing ground to nebulous forces in a land whose people hate them, an army which is slowly falling apart, and which is yet to face its toughest test. With bravery, leadership, a strong sword arm, and sheer force of will, Sam fights Britain's enemies for his men and for his pride. Betrayal and dark, naked ambition stalk him at every corner, and at every echelon of power. For Britain to win the war, he first needs to win his own, more personal one..."

alternate vs alternative

There's a subsection of historical fiction called alternate history. This fits under that.

Alternate or direct is current,  you're talking about the past.  :)

So there is. My bad, as I believe you kids say.

I personally would eschew the collocations "web of" and "naked" with "ambition" for risk of cliché, but I imagine you will put that down to the hyperbolic requirements of back cover copy, and that it in no way represents the literary style of the work itself.

I would like to think so. When has a back cover ever been anything but cliched?

Will try and download it onto my Kindle and have a bash.
Shamefully I haven't read red sheldon's book (The White Swan) that I purchased last year, will make a conscious effort to read both!
