Title: Yeovil away
Post by: JayBox325 on Sunday, October 5, 2014, 09:50:37
I can't make the Plymouth game, but I can do Yeovil!

How many do you think we'll get?

I'm going to try and make it, working in South West London until Midday, so just got to hope the A303 is kind to me.

Come off at Countess down the A345 and go through Normanton, through Little Dunford down The Avenue to Wilton, head down the A30 through Shaftesbury and Sherborne past the Fovant Badges and into Yeovil that way.

Living just the other side of Yeovil its the way I come back to avoid the A303 carpark on a Saturday.

In a word, no. The Arrow is a decentish pub, but the last couple of times we've been its been home fans only. The away pub is the Airfield Tavern, which is shite.

The Arrow has new owners and the beer and food are now pretty crap, not sure if its been given back to away fans yet.

The Airfield has good food and ok beer but no atmosphere at all.

I go in that tent thing next to the ground....
This is the best option but not if you want a few drinks as it takes hours to get served.

There's an interesting discussion on routes to Yeovil, naturally in the Orient thread  :), Jayo will be getting well excited, with this recent addition.

Maybe by the time the game is played we could have a separate thread...

We could allocate different routes to different people and encircle the town as we approach. With everyone conveying their movements back to Reg in central command who pushes little STFC logos around on a map, like in WWII.

My away-day-mate lives in Frome, so like Orient I'll be driving to his then driving down to Yeovil.

The trip to Orient was a nice wet trip through the Salisbury plains.

It's a shame Yeovil isn't really train-able cause some beers would be good. Oh well, I can definitely see this being a good 3 points. Hopefully knock a few past them too, if we get our GD above shitty's before November, that would be a big help.

We're only 1 behind them with a game in hand, it maybe 2 games in hand by the time we play Yeovil.

Yeah, but then we have Preston, Shitty, Posh, Franchise & Fleetwood in November and I can't see us winning all of them so we need a good margin to not get too affected by it.

Where are people meeting for a pre-game drink?

It's in an industrial estate, so I'm not sure where there's a pub nearby. Could be mistaken though.

EDIT: After a quick look on the Football Ground Guide there's a pub 10 minutes walk away called "The Arrow".

Ah, think I went in the Airfield tavern last time, pretty much a 10 minute walk up the road too. It's a shame the Yeovil Ales brewery doesn't have a bar, it's practically next to Huish Park and their beer is actually rather good. Hey ho...

Yeovil Ales is a very good pint, they do quite a few good beers but few local pubs sell it on draught but a few do in bottles.

The away end holds 1500 and the seats an additional 600, so can't see pay on the day being a problem. Part of me wishes I could afford to go. But then another part of me realises that a 9 hour trip for a few hours at Huish Park probably isn't worth the hassle or expense!

On the assumption we've sold 900 so far, and the away terrace holds circa 1000 and we have sold the 600 seats, then 300 on the terrace is going to look a bit sparse.

Yeovil is, of course, Lib Dem territory, however UKIP did win a council ward in 2013, meaning the council is now 23 Lib Dems and 1 UKIP...

Apparently its because the local food processing plant now has a 50% Polish workforce,,,,

Just seen that Smith and Luongo aren't playing for Australia today but could come off the bench so at least they haven't played a full 90 mins to tire themselves out.

Cant find the Bahrain vs Iraq teams to see if Kasim is playing but its 0-0 so far after 49 mins.

Well that was poor, watched the last 20 mins, they played Yaser as an attacking midfielder right behind the front 2.

In 20 mins he scuffed one good chance from the edge of the box and started 2 fights!

Here he is just after being pulled off one of the opposition defenders. (number 5 as Ginginho said).

Good to see Mass didn't get any game time and Brad only had a short stint. Saying that, he's going to have a tough time ousting Bell from his position. From what I've seen of Bell, he's a great player.

I'd be surprised if the seating had actually sold out. When we went a few years back (2-0, Collins & Rooney) there were about 40 fans in the seats and the Terraces were quite full. This was a Tuesday night, too.

I'm excited to see how many we take. Windbreakers at the ready!!

Best boozer is the Masons Arms in Lower Odcombe, a couple of miles away. Brews it's own beer and does excellent food too. Then you could drive back to the Airfield pub area and park up. 10 mins walk to the ground but that way you avoid the total chaos there is trying to get away from the match if you park anywhere closer to the ground on that loop road which passes the entrance.

Since the flash lost his last hat & the lovely mrs flash brought him a new one it has been glued to his head, I am not sure if it's the fear of losing this one and mrs flash kicking the shit out of him or the fear of people seeing his bald patches in his ginger hair.

Don't get me wrong, I can't stand MK and everything they stand for, but witholding your support for your own team in a massive game on moral feeling against another club for something that happened more than a decade ago is a bit too far surely?

Much rather go, have a good day on the beer and watch us twat them.

I'm on your side here - I'd rather go and support my team regardless. However, I completely understand those who would rather avoid giving money to Franchise and choose to stay home.

I'm torn...

when it's your own club it's a different ball game... I'm all up for supporting Town wherever they go. So I'll probably be going.

But a good example how I feel about them is seeing how many Wolves took, how many Coventry ans went and then seeing them draw Man U at home in the cup... all I thought was "Fuck them. That's a big paycheck for Franchise."

But I'll probably go to MK if I can.

Don't get me wrong, I can't stand MK and everything they stand for, but witholding your support for your own team in a massive game on moral feeling against another club for something that happened more than a decade ago is a bit too far surely?

Much rather go, have a good day on the beer and watch us twat them.

Nope, will watch us anywhere else, but I'll never give money to the Dongs. It didn't happen a decade ago. It continues to happen every time they take to the pitch.

I've never been torn on this issue.

Going along to support my team trumps any feelings I have about Franchise.

I'm going to pretend I'm not going due to my moral stance. In reality I'm not going because I can't afford it. (Don't tell anyone).

Would our fans who boycott going to franchise to watch us, also boycott the home fixture?   :sherlock:

Should be a great turnout. How many do we usually get at Franchise? You can never see away fans on the highlights :(.

There was only 639 there last season, but it was a lunchtime kick off & on Sky.

Previous visits we have taken about 1,200

No.
We put money in the coffers of our local rivals, what's the difference?  I don't like the whole franchise thing btw.

The difference is that Oxford have earned the right to exist as the piss stained inferiority that they are. If the money goes to paying Appleton, then money well spent :)

I don't have a problem with fans going to Stadium:MK, they only want to support our team. Its not for me, but I'll be at the home game. I don't have that strong a conviction against their existence. I may well crumble if we played them away in the playoffs too.

I'm going to mk to support our team. Even though it's a shit away day with the ground being in an industrial estate and 1/5 full at the best of times. Oh and they have a fucking drum, cunts

I have never been to a game as quiet as the one there last season. Still probably go this year, shaping up to be a very important game.

It's Michael Smith's birthday today. Reckon we should sing 'happy birthday' to him...  :Ride On Fatbury's Lovestick:

Bet that'd perk him up. Maybe after he scores or at the end if we win?

On a sliding scale of 1-10, how excited are you about tomorrow's game?

I have spoke to The Arrow in Yeovil and they are fine with Swindon fans using it for tomorrows game.

Haha. 22. But I have no idea of the general age on this forum.  :pint:

And Reg, I'm about a 6. Been to Yeovil before so that knocks one off ;)

Reg surely skews the average age by virtue of he being older than time itself though?

I would suggest therefore the use of a median, rather than mean value...
