Title: Crappy Mobile Phone Gig / Event footage
Post by: Saxondale on Sunday, May 25, 2014, 20:19:41
Have you ever got good footage of a gig or event through your phone?  Did you enjoy the event despite the fact you were looking at it through a 3 inch screen and not actually experiencing it in the moment?  Have you ever watched it again or done anything with it?

Currently I'm working with a bunch of cranky old farts who hate it (probably because they don't really trust much of this new technology.  Like calculators.  They add up the cash on abacuses normally).  And its becoming a real problem.

I can watch 7 songs from a 27 songs 3 hour set list from Fridays show already on you tube and that's with massively tight security.  Which has meant we have had to double that security, more costs, which ultimately will end up on the ticket price.

Im just wondering really.  Seems to ruin the gig to me.

It drives me nuts. Why bother going.

Not as bad as cunts that go to smaller venues then spend the entire set talking loudly at the back.

It's the same at football. Why do people record the match on their phone?!

Im waiting for a young un to come and defend the practice.  It could be a generational difference.

Nope, 1-2 photos maybe but thats about it.

Don't know why people feel the need to film a gig.  Seems to have been quite a bit in the press about it recently as well about how were all getting obsessed with capturing a digital reminder of every minor event in our lives and how it diminishes the actual memory of the event.  Through dinner to having a shit.  That said I think a dinner plate to toilet bowl site could be a winner.

Why the extra security costs?

Do bands care that shitty bootlegs end up on ebay?

3 fairly hot young girls wanted me to take a pic of them on Friday, I tried to explain, I didn't have the first clue how to use one of these devices.  Quite kindly one of them tried to explain what to do, but I was a bit pissed and it didn't make much sense.....it was quite funny though how they went into grinning mode....look we're having a good time, then nothing happened at my end  :)

They gave up  :)

Does this happen to you regularly Reg?

I don't like people who spend the gig staring through their phone camera either. I think I count as a 'young-un'. You can't be enjoying the moment and the experience if you're doing that. And you're likely to piss off people behind you. So there.

I've sent snapchat videos from gigs before, but that's solely to rub it in that I'm there and other people aren't. People who choose to video live performances rather than watch it with their eyeballs are mad

Is that the sucking in top lip thing?  If so yes.

I'm 22 (so not really a youngun) but I went to a gig on Monday last week for the first time in ages, so I took a few photos. To actually stand there and video the gig makes no sense though. Surely the whole point of seeing a band live is the experience? You're not going to capture that on an iPhone.

Yeah....I remember seeing the Sex Pistols at your sort of age and realising I wasn't young any more, bit of a shock to the system.

I just don't get it. Why pay all that money to waste it by watching through a phone. It's equally as annoying when you're stood trying to watch and loads of people in front have their phones held high.

I think the only time I filmed anything at a gig was Avenged Sevenfold at Wembley, but that was only to demonstrate how dangerously close I was to what appeared to be a massive flamethrower.

They're old.  They think it steals their souls.  But they dont have much soul.

Its just something that pisses them off.  Also it immediately goes on you tube and you tube then have the rights to that bit of footage.  And they dont like seeing people concentrating on their phones instead of them.

They really dont need it in that all publicity is good publicity way.

TBF you can watch the gig, enjoy it and video the gig at the same time, although I agree I am not sure why people want to do it.
