Title: 29 years ago today...
Post by: horlock07 on Sunday, May 11, 2014, 09:02:27
The Valley Parade Fire - Cannot believe it was that long ago.

Sadly appears to now be totally overlooked by the mainstream media.

RIP the 56....

I dont think there is even a minutes silence in the PL for it?

At the least the play off games are remembering it.

Still remember watching it live on ITV Sport while I had the flu.

Awful scenes that I hope will never be repeated, the sight of the old bill going in to rescue kids and coming out on fire still gives me nightmares.

RIP, real football fans will never forget them even if the media have.

Too many people are using today as a basis to whinge/troll about Liverpool FC and their fans and that's not cool. It seems to be 'make a dig first, remember the Bradford dead second'.

Two disasters, both significant in how we watch games today.

My misses' Grandmother was there that day in that stand. She was knocked down the steps to the front and miraculously survived. Her mate she was with wasn't so lucky. Before she died she managed to push her Grandson through an opening by a kiosk and he survived. Felt very emotional that minutes silence at the last game of the season against Bradford.

Bradford 85, Heysel 85, Hillsborough 89

The late 80s were the lowest point for football in this country.

Literally nothing on the BBC website either.

Appalling.

EDIT: Oh, sorry, there is, buried in 9th place on the page under at last three articles about who'll win the PL. Priorities.

It was the day after I got married, so remember it every year, coupled with the fact that it was Lincoln who they were playing that day, so still gets the press attention up here.  Horrible day and a sad one for football.

You are right, no respect from the Premier League again. I guess it shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone.

According to premiership history, football was invented by Rupert Murdoch. No respect is absolutely no surprise.

Shameful that non of the PL teams picked up on this. Watched the Derby v Brighton game and saw they had a minutes applause during the game - classy touch.

RIP to the 56.
