Title: Kick to Win competition
Post by: blinkpip on Sunday, May 4, 2014, 12:21:51
Have to feel sorry for the chap in the final. Even David Beckham wouldn't have got the ball through a hole from the half way line.

Absolute fixed, miss led competition ever. STFC & Mercedes that is an embarrassment.

His twitter feed last night was full of criticism.  Bad case of 'moving the goalposts' (ahem).

Who was responsible for setting the rules?

I assumed that the T&Cs would have been given up front. Seems though that the kicker didn't know them and only found out on Thursday that he had to hit the crossbar from the halfway line to win (not get it through the hole). Oh and they made him take his football boots off.

Sounds like they panicked and made it harder at the last minute. It was a "bit of a sqizz" as my late nan used to say.

One attempt to hit the crossbar from Half Way in trainers on a watered centre circle.

Poor bloke had very little chance really.

If it was in the T&C's then surely any accusations of them changing the rules are wide of the mark?

Still sneaky though, but then a lot of competitions like this are.

Maybe Jed took the competition merc with him and they had no car to give?

It might not have been in the t&cs as it's a competition which contains skill, thus it isn't really covered by law, so they would be within their rights to make it up as they go along. Unfair and the club should be embarrassed.

I'm hearing rumours he also had to do it blindfold.  Is this true?

I don't think there were any T&Cs, and had there been I'd expect them to say "subject to change without notice". It was more the none too upfront approach that irked me.

To be honest, I thought they'd give the winner a car for a years lease or something like that.

The ground staff were told that if the ball was going anywhere near the cross bar we were to take the goal out and run!
