Title: Green Man Pub - Wembley
Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, March 27, 2014, 11:09:23
Going to the JPT final on Sunday with a mate who is a big Posh fan.

Posh 'have' the Green Man pub on Sunday and that's our meeting point. I remember reading stuff about it before when we played either Millwall or Chesterfield.

What was it like, is it going to be a nightmare to get served etc?

Takes forever to get served but the atmosphere in the garden is decent. Better there than in the ground!

Apparently my mate has already booked a table and there is a BBQ there (I assume this is commonly done). The serving time was my concern. I'm not that interested in the outcome so I'll just drink the £4.50 pints of beer in plastic cups at the ground!

It was on the hotel inspector on channel 5 last week, which I found quite amusing.

The atmosphere in the marquee at the Green Man before the Millwall game was unbelievable, right up there with my best football memories.

They ran out of beer before the Chesterfield game.

You'll have no problem getting served, it's Peterborough playing there will probably be only four of you there ;)

I reckon this might be contending for lowest ever JPT final turnout at Wembley.

Cheers for the feedback.

Sutton, 33k+ tickets sold apparently. 17.5 Posh and 15k Chesterfield

We went to the Green Man pre Wembley last time, queud for 45 mins for the loo, the beer sales in the garden were about 30 mins, horrible pub will never go there again when we get back to Wembley thats for certain....but as Sutton says...this is Peterborough so there will be less there.

What time was that at JJ?

My mate is going with his 6 year old son so getting there about 11:30 and then heading to Wembley about 1 to soak up the 'atmosphere'

I'm going with a Coventry fan as a neutral.

We got there at 11.30 mate, I would suggest getting there a lot earlier if you intend to have a couple.

They did lay on music and bbq (something like £6 for a hot dog though).

Enjoy your day as a neutral, you can go and enjoy the day without worrying about the result.

The loos were an absolute joke, 2 ladies loos, 3 urinals and 1 trap to cater for about 300 to 400+ Town fans.

Clocks go forward and I like my Sunday lie in so 11:30 was always going to be a challenge as it is!

I have a terrible bladder as well, not good news!

I don't bother with the pubs at Wembley,  usually go to the Sussex arms just outside Paddington station. Then hop on the tube.

A nearer one is the grand union two stops from Wembley,  Harlesden?   ???

For the Chesterfield game they just let us drink cans in the garden area. Although if they run out of beer that's probably why. For that reason I never bothered going into the actual pub. Atmosphere in the garden was very good. I remember Lee Peacock randomly turning up and everyone trying to get a picture with him.

Lee Peacock sat about 4 seats down from me during the game, top top bloke.

I was more excited to see Harold.

Yep most people seemed to be drinking cans and pissing in the bushes before Millwall as well.

Decent atmosphere but I wouldn't go there for pre game drinking again.

Still pissed we're not in this final - had my heart set on us winning JPT and finishing mid-table this season! Ah well!

Green Man was buzzing for Millwall, I didn't find it too hard to get a beer in the tent, although it was stupid money for a can of Fosters.. And as already mentioned, the 'forest' is in an ideal location...

Beautiful day yesterday in the sun.

They had a Fosters pump outside and was a doddle to get served. There was Burger vans as well that made it quite easy to get food also.

Probably because it was Peterborough but the atmosphere wasn't exactly rocking. There were a few songs but barely any singing. There was a drum at one stage which made me cringe.

The atmosphere at the game was a bit flat as well, although the Posh fans in the cheaper seats in the 'singing section' did try and get some atsmosphere going, but there was only 33,000 there. All felt a bit pre-season friendly but my Posh mate and his 6 year old boy enjoyed the day out.
