You might strughle at the moment.  Kitten season doesn't generally start until around April/May.  They'll be an influx then!

Don't do it. I fell into the same trap about 15 years ago. It does nothing to take away the kid agenda - probably only sharpens it - and when they come you get a double whammy of selfish small animals who whine constantly to be fed, fill your house with poo, destroy your favourite things and relegate you to the Blue Square Affection League. I find lots of things to compensate where the kids are concerned, but that's only increased my hatred for the cat, who insists on living forever to spite me.

What are you, not yet 25? You're much too young for kids, and quite rightly too self-centred to stand life with a cat. You should put both off for at least a decade, and probably even then some. And then, in the case of the cat, continue to resist forever. When you're about 40 and if you've got plenty of outdoor and indoor space, consider getting a decent dog. Much better friend to the whole family.

My neighbour's cat came into my house and shat on my landing last night.

And then whilst I was in the shower this morning, one of my own cats pissed all over my bedroom floor.

Actually 8th, I forgot one. Gruff, Bonsai, Sean, Billy, Dave, Dylan and Lucy. New one is going to be called Worf if it's a boy.

I recently got a cat - £50 off gumtree and it's fucking ace.

Gruff went to live with my sister when she moved out of my parent's house, Bonsai was poisoned (I grew up in Penhill), Sean and Billy went to live with my mum when she moved to Yeovil, Dave was the victim of my marriage breakdown and now lives with the in-laws, Dylan and Lucy were my brother's cats. I looked after them for a year but got fed up with them as they are pedigree and have awful temperaments. Dylan lives with a friend of mine now, Lucy was quite sickly and died of a heart attack.

Oh and Gruff only died a few years ago, he lived to be 22 :) He was the coolest fucking cat ever. My brother had him from 6 weeks and he used to walk with my brother all over Swindon. The furthest he went was from Beatrice Street where they lived all the way to the tall flats in Penhill.

I took the kids to the cat shelter, they choose a new kitten, they want to call it Chopstick  ::)

Don't let kids call pets names. A local in the pub did that with a pair of Black Lab puppies. They were nickety and nock. Stupid names, but it gets worse.

Of course when he takes them for a walk with the kids, the kids, being kids, call them back by shortening their names and mispronouncing them. So you have a pair of black labs being called back by their owners going 'Nig! Nog!'. The names have stuck now, which makes life quite embarassing for him. Funny mind.

I had an allergy too. But if you totally immerse yourself in them it soon wears off.

Ah, hadn't tried that. I'm allergic too so I've only been getting the downside. You realise you've quietly been proving what Oxford University has just published with a very extensive and world-shattering peanut allergy research programme?

Not the same mechanism, unless jayo's been eating them. Which might explain why he gets through so many ....

... also allergic to cats (but always had dogs) until I moved in with the missus and between us we had two cats and two dogs. Got used to the cats, we still have one, but the dogs are sadly now gone and now I find I have a mild allergic reaction to dog hair. There's a lot to be said for developing a tolerance for things.

My allergic reactions can be so severe that I am left more or less incapacitated for a day or two. I would have to make up reasons to miss work because nobody would accept my allergies would be that bad and I couldn't call until several hours later because it took that long before I could compose myself and hold a conversation.

They aren't quite as severe now but they still leave me feeling very uncomfortable and not long ago I had to cancel a night when my daughter came home after playing with a neighbour's cat. The worst of the attacks can also affect my immune system leaving me vulnerable to illness.

I don't even have to have a cat on my lap, I don't have to touch one. I could be in a house that has cats and even if the cats are out then I could suffer and it won't just go away after an hour or two.

I lived with my Nan for a while and she kept cats. It's true that I do build up an immunity to individuals to a degree but for me the effects never go away. I can (but not always) get used to an individual cat enough that I can be where that cat has been with suffering but having one sat on my lap is out of the question. From time to time one might make it into my bedroom (they were otherwise banned) and sleep on my bed without me realising, I would wake up in a complete mess.

I'll just settle for a dog, I'm not allergic to them. And dogs are better anyway.

I'm not that bad but I get flu like symptoms. Cough and runny nose and my eyes stream like anything. Kind of like hayfever.

I don't have any allergies. Because I'm awesome. I pity those that do. Poor, benighted bastards.

One of my cats constantly follows me about,  gets up by the sink when I wash up, stands up on his back legs when I open a tin of tuna. He also gets on top of the spare fridge freezer in the garage and swipes an unexpecting me on top of the head when I'm getting a beer out. He always sits right where I'm trying to walk to, he does my head in :)

My mrs has 2 cats which she brought with her when she moved in with me. I dont mind them tbh except when they wake me up at 5 in the morning. They are well trained though as they over ever piss or shit in the neighbours gardens.

Taste like chicken or rabbit apparently....
