Title: Tom Waits Albums Post by: wiggy on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 00:59:35 What is everyones favourite?
I have some Amazon vouchers and want to get some more. Title: Re: Post by: sonicyouth on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 07:42:01 Rain Dogs, Frank's Wild Years, Mule Variations, Bone Machine and Blue Valentine.
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: dagrumpymunki on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 09:28:23 Rain Dogs and Frank's Wild years. I also like The Heart of Saturday Night, and, unlike some people that really love Tom Waits, Swordfish Trombones.
If you're looking for just one bit of TW to add to the Ipod though you can't go far wrong with the compilation Asylum Years or possibly the live album Nighthawks at the Diner, Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: sonicyouth on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 09:54:24 I like Swordfishtrombones, some excellent tracks - it just doesn't really work as a whole album for some reason.
Honestly, the only albums I wouldn't bother with are Foreign Affairs and the Black Rider. Anything else is a good choice. Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 10:17:19 I'd have to go with swordfish as well.
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: wiggy on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 11:13:18 Ta for the suggestions. I already have Swordfish Trombones and Closing Time, so will check out some of the others recommended here.
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: adje on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 20:08:08 "Orphans" is the best value on Amazon in my opinion.Others Id recommend,"Alice" and "Heartattack and Vine" for one of his earlier ones.
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: ChinaWhitenRed on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 13:31:24 Heart of Saturday Night
Frank's Wild Years Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: jonah on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 13:37:51 I've only got Mule Variations and Blood Money.
Good tracks on both but Mule Variations just about wins for me....... Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: Bewster on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 14:39:43 I thought I was missing out so bought Rain Dogs.
Anybody want to buy it off me?? Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: sonicyouth on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 15:10:05 haha, I take it you didn't like it?
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: Bewster on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 15:41:04 It was not what I was expecting...
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: adje on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 16:08:04 I thought I was missing out so bought Rain Dogs. Anybody want to buy it off me?? not a good one to start with Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: Bewster on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 17:01:34 My wife said some of the tracks sound like Les Dawson.
I will concede that my musical taste is not as eclectic as a lot on people of here and I am so out of touch with modern artists that my record collection stopped with Snow Patrol. Hence why I thought I'd try something new. What should I have started with? Title: Re: Post by: sonicyouth on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 17:22:05 Try One Direction's latest album
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: Bewster on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 17:30:01 Ha ha very funny ;D
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: sonicyouth on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 17:37:21 It's difficult to recommend without having a vague idea of what you like - I'd say Rain Dogs is probably one of the more accessible, if lengthy, albums of his. You might like something from one of the more recent albums like Mule Variations or Real Gone
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: Bewster on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 17:49:22 Some of the tracks are growing as i begin to get used to the album. I may take you up on the other suggestions. Always on the lookout for recommendations. Sadly my interest in music virtually stopped with change of jobs (less time spent in my car) and the birth of the kids.
Thanks for the advice though. Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: sonicyouth on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 17:58:42 Time is a beautiful song and I bought Rain Dogs on the strength of falling in love with that song alone. It took me a long time to get into the rest of the album so I know what you mean... except for the Les Dawson bit.
Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: adje on Sunday, January 26, 2014, 18:03:48 Honestly-blue valentines, heart attack and vine and Closing time are my tips for a newcomer

Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: adje on Monday, January 27, 2014, 17:23:29 If you like Snow Patrol maybe you should try cutting off your ears? he's right Title: Re: Tom Waits Albums Post by: Honkytonk on Monday, January 27, 2014, 17:25:41 If you like Snow Patrol maybe you should try cutting off your ears? Welp, best get out the knife... Personally I find them pretty inoffensive. Can't really get riled up either way. |
