Off the back of Sarajevo's (former host) vote as the second most desire-able location to visit in Rough Guides list of "must-visit" cities in 2014, and the famous Torville and Dean Gold Medal at those games being given much attention in this week's press, it's time the countdown commenced.

What do we anticipate.....

Russia's determination not to meld into the rancid nation-wrecking project that has befallen every other European country will have dire consequences for itself. The perfect excuse - in the guise of Moslem fundamentalism in the restive Caucasus nations - will result in a series of catastrophic attacks upon these games. I emphasise, this will have nothing to do with tinpot guerrilla warlods in Chechyna, Dagestan and elsewhere perpetrating acts of violence - much as I'm sure they wish they could hoist their flags alongside such atrocities. These will be "false-flag" operations conducted by our own Zionist intelligence agencies hell bent on undermining Russian designs to usurp/expose their malfeasance.

Russia has been delivering repeated bloody noses to the outright scum who parasitized the post Soviet wealth and God almighty they've been delivering a come-uppance of sorts. I have a bad sense of foreboding about these Winter Olympics. I hope our own Shelley Ruddy (Wiltshire I believe, Pewsey?) has been well advised about the dangers.

Look at all the negativity propelled by our media whores like that execrable Stephen Fry, harking on about gay-rights and this Pussy Riot nonsense. We are being suckered into believing that Russia is a reprehensible nation of thugs and all around intolerant, suppressed individuals.

I hope to Goodness I am mistaken but I fear the whole jamboree of Russian hospitality will be obliterated by those with only rotten intentions as their daily bread.

 I've been quietly looking forward to this, in a sort of, it's good to see the levels of skill and courage involved in sports we didn't invent sort of way...but it's not for another month. Come on Dosser...you'd last less time than DMR if you got anywhere near a women.

Not that fussed about the Winter Olympics, to tell the truth.  But if they gave it the same music as Ski Sunday, then I'd be glued to it.

Russia's still catching up with the rest of the First World as far as human rights and the protection of the individual goes. There are many historical reasons for this, but the fact remains.

Quite enjoy the winter Olympics. Got really into the ski cross/snowboard cross last time. None of this one at a time, how quick can you get to the bottom rubbish. Put 4 of the bastards at the top of a fuck off icy hill and see who turns up at the end.

I'm looking forward to Norway dominating the cross-country.

Our top lady skier Chemmy Alcott, scrubs up quite well off the piste....now I think on her 3rd Olympics...she's finished around the top ten in the previous 2, which is mighty impressive for a Brit...very good commentator on Eurosport on the skiing as well.

I bet Kinky Tom knows her.

Sarajevo really isn't that great, sick of the place now. Guess it's nice to visit for a week but after that you'd be bored.

Found myself glued to the yoof doing that snowboarding stuff today.

Without fail random Olympic events always reel me in, I'll no doubt waste endless hours glued to the Curling.

I'd tell her not to worry - unless Chez Ardiles is substantially more extensive than most average Town fans' gaffs or the IOC are planning on dramatically scaling back the size of the event, I doubt your house would get past even a cursory glance in the early stages of the hosting qualification process. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

If it's any consolation, none of that would disqualify you from hosting a future World Cup as long as you deposit a sufficiently large bung with Blatter and his cronies.

I saw the Brit girl get a bronze earlier. The commentary was cringeworthy and pathetic for a measly bronze medal. I had to turn over it was so bad.

Yeah its only a bronze, but its our first ever medal in a snow sport.  Don't really blame people who are into their winter sports getting all excited about that.

Loved the snowboarding, looking forward to some of the other snowboard events too. Would love to get into it, maybe if they'd hurry up and build our snow dome, I'll be able to.

Have found most of the commentary/punditry I've heard so far completely amateurish, cringeworthy and annoying.  Seems to be particularly applicable to the snowboarding.  Never been this irritated during other Winter Olympics (or Summer, or that matter).  Inexperienced commentators perhaps?  Suppose it is the first time this has been shown on such a wide scale so it might take a bit of perfecting.

It's because they are essentially amateurs...the Beeb has so little sport especially when it comes to a once every 4 years event, that they wheel out the equivalent of Radio Swindon STFC summarisers.  FWIW I thought the snow boarding was OK...not a sport I know much about beyond the Flying Tomato...but thought they captured the feel of the event well.

Don't get why they have people like Matthew Pinsent or Steve Cram (curling  ???) commentating ?

Justify their taxpayers funded wages I suppose, Steve Cram is pretty decent actually.

I don't know anything about snowboarding really, but the contrast in commentary style has just been something I have noticed in particular.  Special mention goes to the 3 who "treated" viewers to an earful of "easy like Sunday morning" at the weekend.  That was truly barrel-scraping stuff.
