These threads are usually good for a laugh in a years time to see how miserably you failed.

Pumbaa's comment on Facebook prompted.

  • Make more time for my friends.
  • Make more time for football.  (My 2013 attendance record was the best for some time, but room for improvement.)

Don't really have any grand plans for this year. Doing the Berlin marathon in September, would like to do it under 4 hours I guess. And maybe a sub-20 minute 5k, but that's highly unlikely

So mine were:

As the last 18 months have been dedicated to exams, this year will hopefully bear fruit from all the hard work.

As usual I will attempt to have no booze until February. I think I fell short by a few days last year.

I want to carry on with the weightloss/fitness regime and lose another stone which should see me back to where I should be, or at least 'normal' in BMI terms.

To top it off we want to have the house on the market by the end of the year, but that's kind of dependent on my first point.

Succeeded at nearly everything I planned for 2013. Didn't lose a stone mind, but maintained.

For 2014, it's mostly fitness related. I want to up my cycling mileage. When the light mornings return I plan on doing some pre-work rides. I'd love to cycle to work, but there's nowhere to keep the bike and no changing facilities.

If I get a place in the Ride London then that's going to be the focus of my training. If I don't then I want to get my first half century done by  June and then aim for the century by the end of the year.

In addition, I've been signed up for a 10k run at the end of March so I intend to start training for that pretty soon. It's not that I lack fitness, but I haven't attempted any form of jogging or running for a few years because of shin splints, so it'll be interesting to see if the legs are up to it.

Maintain myself at between 12 and 12.5 stone

10k + Half Marathon (after losing all this weight I want a bloody medal and that's the only way Ill get it)

Give up the tabs.

Confident on all but the last one.

My main goal is to maintain the 7 minute miles I am running currently and to increase the distance.

Oh and complete tough mudder!

Lose weight, get out more, be more active, stay in a job, study, find somewhere to live, buy a car that isn't a lemon, try to be more positive, write fewer lists.

Until last year it was to lose weight and improve my language but every year I got fatter and fouler. Last year I said my resolution was to be more miserable and grumpy and I achieved it. Same again this year.

I ran this in 2002.  By far the easiest way of getting a place is to commit to raising money for a charity.  Depending on the amount raised, the charity will probably pay for your flights & accommodation in to the bargain (as mine did for me).  Good luck!

Similar to last years.....Hopefully finally get the operation they planned on me having last year so get the stomach removed as it makes too much stomach acid in April/May time (but they said that last year too!) so finally be a lot less of me.

Try and get to more than 3 games this season and see us win at New Wembley in the JPT!

Otherwise go on as I am, I don't make promises I know I won't keep.

A tough ask I know, but it can be done.

Got to get me a different job - the current one is killing me.

Stop being so grumpy with the kids (largely dictated by getting a new job!) - we always got on so well until this year.

Buying a house a few months back has proven a massive shock to the finances. I don't get paid a huge amount so the main target for this year is to cut back on spending where I can, so that I actually have something going into savings.

Exciting times ahead :(

Get myself on the job ladder properly. That's my main objective. Travelling a bit would be nice too, I've literally not gotten further than Cornwall in the past year. Got itchy shoes, if you know what I mean.

1. Resign from current job and start new job by end February Achieved ahead of schedule
2. (related to 1) Sell house and move closer to new job location by end July (as need to get son started in primary school for September) On hold
3. Reduce chlolesterol level to <5.0 without using medication (i.e. by changing diet, lifestyle and exercise) Need to arrange another test to see how well this one has gone.....
4. Sell (currently unused) car and purchase new mountain bike by end Jan (anybody want a 02 plate Astra?). Then commit to use it a minimum of 3 days per week. Sold car eventually, bought MTB, but certainly haven't used it enough or as much as I wanted to
5. Significantly reduce (ideally eliminate) my credit card debts by the end of the year. Epic fail.....
6. Raise £1000 for Charity. Epic fail 2......

I've not put much thought into this year's, as yet.

1. Try and lose 1.5 stone.
2. Try and sort employment situation so not commuting 3 hours each day.
3. Try to spend more time with wife and young baby (linked to no.2 above)
4. Try to get out on bike more possibly aim for 3k miles over year.  (linked to no.2 above)
5. See town win something.
6. Completely off the wall and probably complete non-starter but have a hankering to do LEJOG.

I think I may undergo a mid-life crisis inspired health and fitness drive in the not too distant future. Until that happens, however, I think I'll resolve to continue to eat and drink in excess.
