Title: Man Utd call for "B" teams in Football League
Post by: pauld on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, 18:22:26
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2013/dec/04/manchester-united-football-league-b-team

Posting it in here because of this little gem, buried in the middle, when discussing possible alternative ways apart from having "Man Utd B" playing in League 1:
Quote
You can look at different models and what Spurs have with Swindon
Interesting that other clubs are looking at our relationship with Spurs and viewing it as a possible model for the future, rather than just a series of ordinary loan deals

Another model for the future is that they don't sign up every bloody 11 year old in Europe and then complain that they aren't any games for them to play in.

Do they actually mean having a team called Man Utd B, or just taking over an existing club and flood it with their reserves?

If every PL team wanted to that there would have to be an extra league to accommodate them. If they want to take over an existing club I'd imagine fans of said club would stop supporting them.

Why the fuck does every damn thing in football revolve around want the PL want.
fuck 'em

The day we become Spurs B is the day I stop going.

Right now I'll give the relationship the benefit of doubt.

Man Utd B in League 1. Imagine that. They'd win every week if they could be arsed. It would be a huge waste of time.

No problem.  Come on down, Man Utd B.

We swop our places and we rename to Swindon Town A in the Prem and they rename to Man Utd B in League One.

It's not entirely fair to compare with Parma, they have a completely different transfer model in Italy don't they?

i take it you mean the co-owning. add these in and i think parma have over 200 players on their books.

Maybe they're looking for a chance to actually win the league

I got no problem with them starting a new club and beginning at the bottom of the pyramid, but no way should they take over another club or get automatic entry into the league.

Agree with if they didn't import 20 foreign lads each year the could develop their own. With the Spurs model we get them for next to nothing and give spurs a wedge when we sell them. That way spurs don't have to have a contract running and the players will shine more, and therefore make more, in our first team instead of their reserves.

They shouldn't even be allowed to start a new club. The solution is really simple. Put a maximum limit on the number of players any club can have signed up. A club like Utd would then have to pick the very best and the rest trickle down the league and play more games. Stop big clubs hording players or the football league will be destroyed essentially. Its only a matter of time at the moment until League 1/2 become regional leagues in my opinion

Perhaps Man U could set up their own League and just play against the B team every week.

I am sure they have fans who would be quite happy to see that and sod everyone else!

Even more Mental when you look in detail and see out of the 106 there are 23 Goalkeepers.

There have been some horrific genetic cloning experiments that have taken place in Parma with the 23 goalkeepers but after all that culminated with the Mattia Lanzano fiasco that project has been put on hold
