Title: GP surgeries
Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, 12:14:50
Generally irked by my doctor's "couldn't really give a fuck" attitude this morning. Thanks, I'll take that leaflet that you just printed for me (after Googling the condition) and be on my merry way.

Plus the receptionist is a snotty cow (aren't all GP receptionists the same?) that could do with a personality transplant.

Discuss.

Go private...get ahead of the game, the present government are keen to shift on the break up of the NHS at a pace...and to sell off bits to companies, in which they have personal financial interests.

Generally takes a couple of weeks to get an appointment, then when you turn up there are about 3 people in the waiting room (less than the number of GP's on duty). Why?  ???

I just registered with a new GP on Friday... it was as if my visit had ruined the receptionist's day; no concept of customer service of helpfulness. My old GP had nosey receptionists who wouldn't make an appointment for me without me discussing what my problem was, and were as useful as Anne Frank's drum kit when the surgery lost all my medical records for the first 17 years of my life which I needed for a job related medical - giving conflicting information, forgetting to pass messages on, trying to charge me for the inconvenience.

They do all seem useless, rude, and generally inept - at least in those two surgeries. Not looking forward to trying to make an appointment with my new GP this week.

Agree with this, hence the reason why I don't go unless I am literally dying.  Fucks me off also that you make an appointment then sit for an hour before seeing the doctor, turn up 5 minutes late and you lose your appointment.

If you were paying directly for the service or for insurance you would be treated like a paying customer, because the perception is that we get the service for nothing they are not really bothered about common courtesey unfortunately.

Go to the doctors in the states and get treated like royalty (in most places).  I guess it's the rough and smooth of the NHS.  The benefits of the NHS are excellent for that peace of mind in an emergency, anything other than that I would personally prefer to pay extra for insurance and go private.

Ah yes, this too. My appointment was at 9.10. I didn't get seen until 9.30. How can surgery be running 20 minutes late so early in the day?!

And why do receptionists ask what's wrong with you?

It's none of your business.

Lucky you, Crossroads Surgery are quoting 3-4 weeks to see a doctor, or "ring up in the morning if it is urgent" and if you haven't rung by 8-35 the emergency appointments are all gone, "try again tomorrow"!!  Used to be a great practice until Abbey Meads got their dirty mitts on it, running it into the ground now!!

It is though.

Not the receptionists. They don't need to know really. They're just nosey.

I rarely go to the doctors but if i do i prefer to see the locum who is there on a tuesday and is much more thorough. Only trouble with that is that she runs late due to being thorough.
Can get in the same day if calling early and saying its urgent. The receptionist doesn't ask too much and is friendly. Reckon it's better is it's a one doctor surgery probably.

I used to go to Carfax street and that was horrendous. My family still use them and my Dad was running late due to buses one day and called ahead to let them know, got there a bit late and the doc refused to see him. Cunt.

GP Surgery waiting rooms are dangerous places.  They're full of sick people carrying all kinds of horrible viruses and infections that you've probably never had in your life......but very soon will do as a result of having to sit close to them while they cough and breathe all over you.  The bastards!  These places are best avoided.

Ah, so what you meant was:

And why do receptionists ask what's wrong with you?

Me to receptionist: "It's none of your business."

Carry on.

Up here the stock question from a receptionist on requesting an appointment is 'Is it an emergency'... it tends to cause much confusion and irritation when I reply that I don't know, thats why I wish to see a doctor although if I thought it was I would probably go to A&E rather than waiting on the phone for 30 minutes for them to answer it!

They do seem to get something of a god complex.

Yep.

The receptionists have always been up themselves, save the odd time.

Doctors smochters.

Fucking useless the lot of 'em. Unless you have an arm hanging off or minus your head they haven't got a clue what's wrong.

This is said from my GP who, when I was a mere whippersnapper, diagnosed my stomach pains were just growing pains.

2 hours later my appendix burst and yours truly almost shuffled off.

My latest charlatan refuses to refer me for a knee replacement because, apparently, I'm too young - I'm 59 FFS!

They are just hoping I die of something else before they have to refer me

I've only been to the doc to register because my missus made me a few years ago... I wouldn't bother going other than that. Most of my ailments I can identfy via the internet and fortunately I've not contracted anything serious and unidentifyable yet... I've been to A&E far more often for various injuries.. The last time I went the Doc said that my ankle, which I couldn't walk on and thought was broken - was not only not broken but not even sprained, just badly bruised.. I asked him if I needed time off work to rest it and he said "You play football and I play Rugby, you're a southerner and I'm a northerner, I wouldn't but its up to you... " (which I thought was quite funny really).

Who is audrey?

Kerry Red.

Bit of a toughie tonight, I reckon. Could edge it 2-1 but not surprised if it's a draw.

I've been prepared to change my name to Audrey if the 10,000 barrier isn't broken tonight - what with the price reductions - so hope this filthy weather eases up by kick off.

Attendance v Walsall was 8188.

You see, this is what pissed me off about this morning.

I'm a typical guy. I always self-diagnose using Google. Most of the time it tells me that I've contracted something like Ebola and I'm going to die.

So I self diagnosed this problem, but the wife said that I should probably go to the docs for verification and a professional opinion and discuss treatments etc. So I walk into the doctors office, she says "yep, that looks like such and such", Googles and prints me a leaflet and I go home armed with a website printout which tells me nothing I don't already know.

I feel no more reassured or informed. She just made me feel like I was wasting her time because I wasn't in any pain or discomfort.

Cheers then, I'll just go home and Google some more then shall I?

Attendance v Walsall was 8188.

Now, that should be investigated. No way we had 2 consecutive home games with the exact same official attendance.

I am now scarred for life

Don't they try to triage some things off to the nurse - non urgent asthma care and the like?

""You play football and I play Rugby, you're a southerner and I'm a northerner, I wouldn't but its up to you... "

I bet being a northerner he plays rugby league, which is like rugby but not real rugby ;)

That was the surgery I've just left... glad they aren't just moody, rude, and nosey to me!

Last time I went to my Doctors I was seen by a female doctor who was tongue-tyingly attractive and about my age. Fortunately we weren't discussing a cure for my tiny penis, so there's still a chance she'll fall in love.

Add Penhill surgery into the group as well
Very rarely get to see a doc anyway - most emergency appointments I have had are always with a nurse
Who - if thinks its serious enough to need medication - has to go see the doc anyway and get a second opinion/prescription
Whats the fucking point in that ?

Park Lane are alright for getting same day appointments as long as you ring early enough and the receptionists aren't overly intrusive with their questions .I've never seen the same Doctor twice though  so its difficult to get stuff sorted out and feels like you're starting from the beginning every visit

Home Ground in Greenmeadow are quite good.  There's one miserable receptionist who's been there years, but she seems to have improved with age and the rest are ok.  If you want an appt quite quickly and none are available, they get a doctor to ring you to discuss what's wrong.  They must have appts set aside each day, because following discussion they invariably say come in at xx time.  Can't fault them really.
