Title: Great fucking start to the weekend
Post by: THE FLASH on Friday, September 20, 2013, 17:10:25
Some fucker has put through four transactions for over £1500 plus on a ticket site through my PayPal account. :crash:

Changed all my passwords on everything...

Raised it with PayPal.

Told the ticket website,

Told Barclays.

How long does it take for PayPal to sort? Any experience people? :suicide:

Fuckers, Barclays will give you the money back while they dispute the transaction then the result of that investigation may be a few weeks.

Had similar a few weeks ago. Bought something off EBay using PayPal.

There then appeared a spurious extra transaction which I knew nothing about of about £140

Contacted PayPal who agreed it wasn't authorised and got me money back in about 4 weeks

Forgive my ignorance but as i use PayPal those subject interests me. How do people hack into accounts? Should I make my password stronger or is that pointless?

If your password falls into the category below you should change it...

Your pets name and your year of.birth
Contains your name and a random number less than 4 digits long
Your girlfriends name
A dictionary word
Your car registration number
The number of girls you have slept with (unless it is at least 8 digits long)
Anything that can be skimmed from your facebook account

My password is complex. it's the amount of times DMR, Dv and dosawansky have shagged women. And no it isn't 1.

Sometimes they get lucky and guess a password, but most of the time it's either because there's a virus harvesting key strokes on your PC, or you've been tricked by one of those phishing sites.

Same thing happened to me, the old bill had an addy for shipment - in Cleethorpes - but said as I was being refunded by paypal/my bank it would not be their policy to investigate it!!  One week later my bank account was stripped out and again they did not want to know as I was being refunded.  They soon changed their tune when the chief constable of Wiltshire was contacted by my mp.  People were arrested and charged.

So the police think it's acceptable not to persue the twats as money has been refunded ::)

That was how it worked for me Woolster, 'tis a long story but the person finally arrested was acting as a "mule" - allowing her bank account to be boosted up by outside agencies, she was apparently being paid £50 every time it happened!  She denied everything at first but was presented with the proof.  The police let her and her family "stew" for a few days, her parents persuaded her to co-operate with the police and she made a statement giving a few names and details.  A lot of drugs and money-laundering in the Grimsby area came to a halt with about 12 arrests!!

Or sometimes because people write letters into the Daily Telegraph telling the world enough details so that it can easily be cracked...

Memorable password

SIR – Learning that most passwords are easy to crack (report, December 15) made me realise that the two years of Army National Service I spent in Singapore and Malaya in the 1950s were not wasted.

My eight-digit Army number was burned on my brain and makes an ideal password which is impossible to break.
