Chief sports writer Sam Morshead analyses the Robins' squad after a hectic summer transfer window comes to a close. http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/news/headlines/10649448.After_the_window__where_do_Swindon_Town_stand_/?ref=rss Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: DarloSTFC84 on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 06:27:57 This is a great review..
Genuinely very excited for this season. Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 07:11:54 When put like that, it's easy to see we're better of in all ways. Might struggle with consistency for a little while, but have genuine high hopes.
Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: DarloSTFC84 on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 07:24:49 Easy to see how much better off we are, and how good at bargaining the new board are.
Money for Caddis who was never going to play, some argue it's not what he's worth, but for me...any money is better than having to pay his wages if he isn't going to play... Well over the odds for Flint, when considered Shitty even covered the sell on clause which went to Alfreton... A lot of shrewd business carried out. I hope it continues.... Just need to get rid of Navarro and Cox now...do they still exist? Have the board 'finished them'? Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: THE FLASH on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 07:33:57 Caddis being bombed on was a must for me.
Now the window is shut we may see Cox and Navarro 'let go' just as Coventry have had a cull. Freebies can move outside the window I believe.... Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: DarloSTFC84 on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 07:34:55 Absolutely, but would we have to pay them off?
Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: suttonred on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 07:41:35 Probably.
Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: DarloSTFC84 on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 07:47:52 Maybe we can sue them for impersonating a footballer?
Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: pauld on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 08:15:12 Has to be said, from someone who's been something of a sceptic about the Jed/Power combo, over the last week or so I think we've started to see it come together. As of right now, we look in relatively decent shape, I'm sure we'll have peaks and troughs throughout the season, but it's starting to look like the peaks could be pretty good.
Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 08:15:35 Cox is still wanted by Plymouth so I think a loan will be in place when he is fit again that will take him off the wage bill but Navarro will stay until the end of his contract and be let go and retired.
Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: Bewster on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 08:23:27 It has to be said that given the state of play in the weeks after the play off defeat everything was very doom and gloom and my expectations for this year were avoidance of relegation. The loss of Alan Mc, Flint, Ferry, Devera made things look very bad.
But with respect to Cooper and Jedward - we have a team that is playing good football, beating superior opposition and that contains some absolute belting players - and ones that could be massive crowd favourites - Kasim, Luongo, Ranger, Thompson, Ward, Wes. I can't really say that the previous season shirt fillers - Miller, Roberts, Williams gave me such an air of excitement. Ok....so this is Swindon and it'll only last until the January transfer window (and/or court verdict) but I hope it doesn't. And I loved Jed's tweet about having Kassim in a plane - goes to show intent. Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: Peter Venkman on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 08:31:34 Pretty much agree with all of that Mr B.
Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: Gnasher on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 08:39:49 Excellent review Sam. We do look short of options at the back, but you get the feeling with this squad that someone will fill in and will prove to be a more than adequate replacement.
Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: Berniman on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 11:14:31 Surely we are at a lower level than £3.1m now? I thought we were at £2.8m a month ago and since then we have offloaded the expensive Caddis, Benson, Ferry, Roberts, Miller, Williams Rooney and Rooney and added less cheaper options?

Yes, I thought that was strange. If we were aiming for £2.4m, it'd be a concern if we're still that far above it. Sam's comment that we're still sailing close to the FFP limit was interesting. Only slight worry for me is central defence cover. As Sam has said it is thin and has no real experience, obviously TAH out on loan is one that will fit the bill and game time will obviously help. All in all a far happier bunny than I was two months ago. Title: Re: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? The fickleness of football fans :) Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: OOH! SHAUN TAYLOR on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 12:00:28 Today everything's great. Not sure on that Always a few that will feel that way Tough month this one and if we can get 6 points I would say we're doing ok just ok Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Post by: Tails on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, 12:36:35 Today everything's great. Lose Saturday and everything will be back to being shit again. I agree in a way... But I think peoples main 2 grumbles were that: 1) The team would be shit 2) Jed & co are in it for themselves and are doing things on the cheap. Last week knocked both those two concerns well out the park with two fantastic performances and results and the fact we paid a lot for a talented youngster. It'll take a few defeats to bring everything back down, and even then it looks like most people have accepted that September will be an extremely tough month for us. Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Sam's comment that we're still sailing close to the FFP limit was interesting. I also heard Steve Murrell on the radio prior to the Crewe game. The interviewer was trying to get him to give out figures as to how much the Chelsea game would be worth to us in tv rights etc. He wouldn't say, but unless I heard him incorrectly he did say something along the lines of it will get the club through September's costs at least. Did anyone else hear it? Seemed to infer we're still struggling with month by month costs? Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Yes I did hear the interview (yes I know DV heard it 3 months ago etc etc) I didn't take it that it inferred to us being in financial problems I took it just that it would make enough money to cover the months costs in general, therefore just saying that one game vs Chelski would give us the same income as 1 month normal football income.Title: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? Ah, that would make sense. Thanks.Title: Re: Re: Adver News: After the window, where do Swindon Town stand? That's still a lot of wages to shift. Even we're only getting £1,200 contributed towards each of them, that's still a quarter of a million quid a year.
