What is it with the club making verbal offers and then going quiet?  Didn't we hear something similar from the board with one of the players who left? Struggling to remember who though.

What's wrong with good old fashioned written offers?

They made Macca a verbal offer a couple of days before he was due to sign for Brentford.

Far play to Ward for taking a pay cut.

It gets ever more confusing doesn't it.

We have a player like Ward prepared to take a pay cut to stay having spoken to the newly self appointed Real Madrid of league one?

He says it's because he is confident with what is happening here, yet we all know as it's quoted as fact on here that the club is doomed and being stripped to oblivion in a shambolic manner.

All too confusing.

And because his family is settled. He'd be mental to stay on less money without family considerations. Plus if he's getting a coaching role that's a biggie for him.

You really would have thought a senior player would have had a bit of an idea about what was going on, somebody tell him to join the TEF to find out the real news and the inside stories - according to Chang and Crispy!!

But Ward seems so sensible and switched on, yet wants to stay. As captain, he must not see the impending doom most on here can.

But people on the TEF know know more than any player does. Ward knows nothing!

If you are going to use it to bash the negative people at least show where it says he is confident with what is happening here???


 

I think the fact that he turned down Brentford, who would have offered more cash and same length deal, shows he must have some faith and confidence.

He wouldn't sign if he thought we were on the verge of losing every player worth any cash/aiming for 20th in the league/JedCo are asset-stripping wankers.

Maybe, just maybe, it's going to be alright. Can't knock the way the club are trying to go about their business on the pitch when you take into consideration the budget challenges. They seem to be trying to build something. Off the pitch - who knows. Inability as worse, but not malice.

I was having a chat with my old man the other day about the club and the way we're going. At the end of the day, if you don't have a major benefactor these days you need to do something different to the rest to stand any chance of competing - and on the pitch, that's what we seem to be doing. Exploiting personal relationships (Power and Sherwood), and investing in a playing model that is a little removed from the usual League One mishmash of journeymen playing average football and picking up enough points to avoid relegation, which is the target of all bar six or seven of the richest (biggest budget) clubs.

Ok it wasn't a direct quote (problem with reading on train) but the story says

'The 34-year-old is settled in Swindon and he feels his willingness to accept a reduced salary shows just how much he believes in what is going on at the County Ground.'

So unless we are saying that Sam is totally putting words into his mouth it gives the impression that he's reasonably happy. Doesn't read as a story from someone who is only staying under duress, but sure many will suggest that Jed probably had a gun at his head when he was interviewed.

Brentford offered little more than half what Swindon offered him hence why he is still with us but they offered him a 2 year deal when Swindon only offered him a 1 year deal, so we came back and offered him a 2 year deal.

To be fair, all he eats are nuts and berries, so his lifestyle can't be that expensive.. ;)

Good news. Likely to be club captain and good to see some loyalty with him taking (in his own words) a big pay cut.

I guess a future role in coaching/managing at the club is also in his mind.

Yes, they're offered less than what he's currently on, but no less than he's about to take from us if/when he signs. And that's completely beside the point. He obviously can't be too disgruntled here.

Ward was never unhappy here it was his wife who wanted him to move back to London to be nearer her family.

 Fair play to Ward...I was surprised when Brentford came in, because thought he would be hard to shift at his age.

Still, only a verbal agreement mind......

Wonder how much he's got left in the tank? Paleo man may be one of those players that just keeps on going until they're 60 something (slight exaggeration).

Good for Ward. I'm dead chuffed he wants to stay.

I do feel sorry for the way he and others have been messed around. I would love to hear their views of whats gone on, and of the boards, old and new - never going to happen though.

Remember Brain Borrows who McMahon picked up from Cov, where he'd been forever...was easily 37/38 at the time and could still get about the park better than some of the lardarses that McMahon signed like Gary Elkins...

Rumour has it that a year's supply of beetroot juice swung the deal. Glad he's staying.

I realise this is going off topic but I was always hard on Borrows.  If I remember correctly he came in not long after Culverhouse left.  I wanted him to be as classy as Culverhouse was, and he wasn't.  He was pretty good, but I never shook the disappointment.  True, very dull, story.

If Ward signs it may turn out to be the most important signing we make this summer.

I liked Brian he must have been close on 40 when he played his last game for us...but you could tell he was thorough pro, understood the game and we were a lot shitter the following season when he had retired. WE also were playing Div 2 then, WArd could go on a while yet.

A very nice bloke too....total respect for the fans and got me and Jutty a drink too.

Borrows was brilliant for us. Ward could go on just as long as he did, no problem.

Aye.  It'd be great to get him signed on for longer.  Just you lot remember who was the first on here to rate him.  :toocool:
