While doing some research on my ancestors in Sheffield i came across this photo,this photo was taken at the time when Sheff Utd were just being formed...it is believed this could be from one of the early matches when of course the stadium would have been in its infancy and of course a lot smaller than todays ground.
Note the nosey neighbours in the front garden :)

It could...it wasn't....it has been a popular pub in Sheffield for over 100 years called The Sheaf.

Incidently Sheffield was once Sheaf Field named after the local River Sheaf that runs nearby.

But i made a mistake because it seems Wednesday were the early tenants.

Daniel Brammall a clergyman was born in this house hence the name of the lane,before football it was used by Yorkshire Cricket Club.

Are you sure?  This is the Sheaf House.  Doesn't look like it could be the same building...unless it's a rebuild.

The stadium was built on a Sheffield road named after the Bramall family (who were file and graver manufacturers). The Bramalls owned "The Old White House" on the corner of Bramall Lane and Cherry Street, and subsequently built the Sheaf House, now a public house that still stands at the top of Bramall Lane. The stadium was originally opened as a cricket ground. It was also used for football games in the 19th century by Sheffield F.C. and Sheffield Wednesday but since 1889 it has been the home of Sheffield United.

I assumed that 'The Old White House' was the same building in the photo, and found the junction of Brammall Lane and Cherry Street on Streetview.

Good shout Ardilles,the old building(i posted) was deffo turned into the Sheaf House Hotel...which may as you say be different to the Sheaf House pub.

So it seems maybe the Old White House became a hotel....with another building The Sheaf Pub built further down the lane.
