Croats are lovely except when they're running concentration camps like Jasenovac, which even the Nazi's were utterly shocked about. Dark history, but of course that must be buried because the Serbs are just "pure evil". The Croats did their Pope proud with their blood letting. Lovely Old Town in the city although it is a tourist hotspot for the cruise ships. Actually stayed in a small town call Cavtat 10 miles south and was lovely harbour and surroundings, apparently Roman Abhamrovic stays in is yacht there. Also worthwhile doing some of the island cruises or stay on these if you have more time

Have to say I went to Slovenia a few years ago and have to say it's one of my favourite European destinations, absolutely amazing country. I know it doesn't help in this thread but if you fancied somewhere else next time, Lake Bled, Piran, Ljubljana well worth a visit!
