SWINDON Town will run the rule over Aston Villa defender Daniel Devine during pre-season with a view to bringing him to Wiltshire on a permanent deal. http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/news/headlines/10503002.Town_look_for_Devine_intervention/?ref=rss Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: china red on Monday, June 24, 2013, 06:43:31 When Jed mentoined he wanted to set up an U21 team did he mean the first team? The rate we are going the average age of the first team will be prepubescent next season.
Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Amir on Monday, June 24, 2013, 06:48:47 We should look at bringing Sean Devine in as well, that would help.

Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Riddick on Monday, June 24, 2013, 07:36:42 Crewe do well enough with a very young team. I hope we can add a couple of older players as well though.
Devine and Barthram so far it seems Title: Re: Post by: Frigby Daser on Monday, June 24, 2013, 08:00:07 Gets decent write ups and seems he may have had a chance at Villa had he not had a prolonged spell out with injury. Agree with the above. We need to ensure we get some old heads in alongside the kids. There aren't any 'leaders' amongst the dregs of last year.
Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Batch on Monday, June 24, 2013, 08:07:55 I dont get why people are moaning and / or surprised we all knew this was how we were going to build the team. Did we, I was expecting more of a mix of experience with youth *. That's what a £2.4M budget should buy. * assuming there are 4-5 more outs/no more experienced ins. It isn't so bad right now, but the defence is woefully inexperienced if Ward goes, the midfield not much better. Some just can't see the bleeding obvious though. What we can't be certain about is what you might call the Ward factor; it's quite conceivable McCrory/Power didn't anticipate him going....as going into a season with no experience at the back is :suicide: Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: nigel grays a postie on Monday, June 24, 2013, 09:02:53 Is Ward a definite goner? Maybe Jed and Co aldo thought their half baked attempts to get the club captain to stay might also work. "Experience" works both ways - Influential Greer/McCormack/Ward etc Time serving old lag Prutton/Whalley/Rose and co
Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Trashbat? on Monday, June 24, 2013, 09:03:27 it's quite conceivable McCrory/Power didn't anticipate him going....as going into a season with no experience at the back is :suicide: You would imagine they did have an idea he would be going, he still has another year so he can't just go and have talks with other clubs if he feels like it...unless of course he has some sort of clause in his contract. Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, June 24, 2013, 09:08:39 Is Ward a definite goner? Maybe Jed and Co aldo thought their half baked attempts to get the club captain to stay might also work. "Experience" works both ways - Influential Greer/McCormack/Ward etc Time serving old lag Prutton/Whalley/Rose and co Well the Adver said he's a goner...and they don't usually stick their neck on the block. So really it's better the devil you know...Ward could be a valuable player next season, and will be hard to replace, if we chose to do so. Of course TAH could come into the equation....we just don't know. Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Reg Smeeton on Monday, June 24, 2013, 09:25:37 You would imagine they did have an idea he would be going, he still has another year so he can't just go and have talks with other clubs if he feels like it...unless of course he has some sort of clause in his contract. The policy of making all players available for transfer, is OK insofar as there are some you probably don't expect to shift, due to reasons of crapness JMac, injury TAH, and excessive wage Navarro. Ward at 34 with another year to run, would have been another who you'd be slightly surprised that someone else would offer him 2. Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Trashbat? on Monday, June 24, 2013, 09:39:51 The policy of making all players available for transfer, is OK insofar as there are some you probably don't expect to shift, due to reasons of crapness JMac, injury TAH, and excessive wage Navarro. Ward at 34 with another year to run, would have been another who you'd be slightly surprised that someone else would offer him 2. That is very true. Although Ward has said himself that he wants to be at a club challenging for things, so would probably want out if he felt that wasn't us. Also for a 34 year old he keeps himself extremely fit and sharp, so a 2 year contract wouldn't be too surprising for him. I groaned at the headline. Well done whoever wrote that one. Could be an interesting "transfer fee" if he signs for Town. Happy enough if Jed is using his connections with both to help the guy in preseason or if its a reward for doing well at Banbury. Can't believe he is really on trial with Benson/Collins/Williams/Storey/Rooney? already there!
Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: DRS on Monday, June 24, 2013, 13:25:33 We take players on trial every summer, why does it make a difference now all of a sudden.
Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: kaufman on Monday, June 24, 2013, 13:33:39 I can't quite get my head round why the official site is making such a big deal about Caddis coming back into the fold if the club are going to sell him.
It's either a plan to up his price or maybe he's coming back to be part of the team till Jan. I'm aware it's early days. Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Honkytonk on Monday, June 24, 2013, 13:50:19 We take players on trial every summer, why does it make a difference now all of a sudden. Probably because we haven't signed anyone yet and people are getting jumpy. Personally if Caddis comes back and Ward stays, I'll get excited likes it's new signings. I understand Cads has seen the bright lights of Brum and will likely want to go there, but if they can't afford him then why shouldn't he stay on with us another season. Give him back the Captaincy, show him that he's wanted back, and he will make a go of it. Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Cibocchi_Is_God on Monday, June 24, 2013, 13:56:58 Would be absolutely made up if Caddis decides to stay. Like Honkytonk says, give him the captaincy and he might just be here next season..

Don't think it makes a lot of difference, Lambourne mentioned about names. Would be more unusual if no one took any interest in new players at pre season training. Title: Re: Adver News: Town look for Devine intervention Post by: Batch on Monday, June 24, 2013, 14:40:58 Oh on the Banbury player thing, didn't Fitton do the same for Austin?
Don't get me wrong, I'm still a bit worried about our exclusive bargain basement buys. But a trialst is easy enough sent packing if not up to it. ...or Wes, wasn't he going to put pen to paper today? We have trialists in every summer - usually along some new signings and retained players!
