My missus has always wanted a tat. Personally I am somewhere between ambivelent to totally put off depending on what it is, where is and who has it. That said she has not gotten one out of respect for me. However at her age i don't think what she would get and where it goes would matter to much and be hardly considered a tramp stamp. So to the painted amongst us where is the best place in town to get one?

If Mrs F really has to 'scratch' this particular 'itch' (and I hope she doesn't), make sure it is something small and discreet, and in a place where only you and she will see it.

I suggest that you take her into your town centre on a warm summer day when there is plenty of female flesh on display.  Point out all the stupid 'chavvy' women who have had their legs, necks, arms and tits inked and, hopefully, she will realise that this is one 'fashion' that just isn't worth following.

I love tattoos on women, my wife has about thirty (I have none). Some of hers have meanings, others just look nice, or interesting. Personally I've always thought that lots of tattoos look better than just one or two, but that's just my acquired taste

I'd shop around if you can, I always find its best to actually chat to an artist and get a good idea drawn out together first rather than just going in and saying "i want this". Suppose it depends on the type of person you are and what you actually want in the end though, but there are a few good ones about.

agree with the above poster that tattoos on women (if done right) look awesome. Myself & my other half are planning to get quite a few done in the near future!

Sod shopping around, go somewhere you know is good, regardless of how much it costs.
And just because someone can draw, doesn't mean they can tattoo

How do you know it's good if you've never had one before? It's all well and good people saying a place is decent, but I've had reccomendations and I personally didn't like them. This is my point, personal choice, if I'm having something permanent on my body I'd rather try several options to find something that suits me best. Some people prefer to just go in and do it... but that aint for me.

Your last point is a little bit petty, obviously you have to check out previous work! and generally if you go to any studio they (should!!!) have a license. I didnt mean get joe bloggs off the street to draw you one!

The only license a tattooist needs is a hygiene certification. There is no actual certification to be a tattooist, that's one of the main issues at the moment,  any tom dick or harry can buy a gun on ebay and start tattooing.

Thanks for the well intended advice, she knows the difference between tramp stamps and delicate body art for your eyes only.
