Co-op always have it in the reduced to clear section. Sounds like a combo of gas (Hydrogen Gas) and sludge. The sludge actually puts pressure on the pump and can damage it so there is another reason to have them cleaned out. We had ours done last autumn, massive difference. British gas charge about £600. If it is done properly it is an all day job on a big house but you will save money over the next few years. I can give you our plumbers number if you PM me.
