Title: Any central heating guys out there
Post by: chalkies_shorts on Thursday, June 20, 2013, 19:38:28
I think my radiators need a good clean out as some are hot at the top and cold at the bottom. Any one out there who knows what the fuck they're doing and wants to earn a few quid. In Swindon.

ignored - I think its a build up of shit and gunk and they need to be flushed out, which apparently can be quite expensive.

Top Tip: De-icer is very cheap this time of year.  Co-op always have it in the reduced to clear section.

Yeah I've actually bought De-icer out of season before. So I guess that is my micro-contribution to Chalkie's aseasonal approach to economic frugality.

Any other tips JJ ?

How old is the house/system? Sounds like a combo of gas (Hydrogen Gas) and sludge. The sludge actually puts pressure on the pump and can damage it so there is another reason to have them cleaned out. We had ours done last autumn, massive difference. British gas charge about £600. If it is done properly it is an all day job on a big house but you will save money over the next few years. I can give you our plumbers number if you PM me.
