I love Ascot.  I've never been, but for one week a year you see the race-goers at Waterloo station every morning - dressed up to the nines, immaculately turned out with their top hats and Royal Enclosure badges.

And then again in the evening when I'm on my way home and they're making their way back...hot, sweaty, sunburned and shit-faced.  Women with mascara all over the shop and walking barefoot.  The transformation is phenomenal.

Nice picture - the early evening exit is something to behold

Could do with Hughes stepping up today. I had Sky Lantern in the Guineas when came home at 11/1. Have to stick with her despite being half that price. Playing with my winnings anyway I suppose.

A horse has died of a heart attack and gets shot in the bonce. How can we allow this to happen? As if Aintree wasn't enough? That poor horse was driven to its death. It was gasping for breath. For what? So we can drool over a betting slip.

The poor creature has died.

This may suprise and astonish you but non-racing horses run and have heart attacks too

Are you sure? Seems to me that many horses die surrounded by a Royal entourage. Let them eat grass and the peasants will spunk their dough.

We, my friend, are just bit parts on the stage.

My mates old man fox hunts every year, and twice in the last 4 years the horse he has been on has died of a heart attack.
Noone screams and shouts about that, and so they shouldn't, these things happen and horse racing shouldn't get stick when it happens to them.

If that poor horse hadn't have been put through hell, and instead was happily grazing in the field, would he/she have died of a heart attack? I doubt it.

How would you like it if someone was mercillesly whipping you to the finish line. You get a bag of oats if you win, but if not they'll flail you to kingdom come.

Some people pay good money to have that done to them

Horses aren't bred to stand still...

They also are not bred to hurdle over near impossible hurdles. Cruelty to animals curdles my blood. It takes a black heart to not sympathise with these poor horses. The ones I have met just like eating grass and mooching about the place and being patted on the nose. They don't gallop as a rule.
