Currently I am residing in a static caravan in Risley, Derbyshire. It sits a hedge width away from the A52 one side and beautiful farmland and countryside.

They also eat cob's for their snap up here, instead of rolls for their lunch.

So a new day and Im TEFing from the heart of Oxford.  A jungle of cafes, restaurants and more cafes.  I hate to say it but its a bit nicer than Swindon town centre.  And the lardy cake was good despite saying oxfordshire lardy cake on it.  I feel like they're trying to nick something great from Wiltshire.  They'll be claiming white horses next. 

Back on mums sofa in Swindonia. My time at the caravan of love has ended.

At home in Preston. Not as bad a place as many seem to think really. Smaller than Swindon, and admittedly not much going on, but being a student city gives it some life for most of the year, and it's easy to get to places like Manchester, Liverpool the Dales and the Lakes, so no complaints from me.

That is almost as ridiculous as Somerset Brie.


Seemed a nice enough place when we had to detour through it recently.  (Emergency kiddie loo break off the M6.)  The area around the city park in north Preston near the football ground seemed really nice.

Got to the BAT site and assumed the cigarette packets, lighter and ash trays in reception were just there for marketing purposes... that was until the site IT lead walked down the corridor to collect us cigarette in hand puffing away then continued to smoke all the way through our 8 hour meeting alonng with half the other attendees - when in Rome!

Oh, and the factory has got one of the longest corridoors I have ever seen... nearly a kilometer in length... it's like one of those nightmare visions where you keep running and nothing seems to get closer...

Apologies for the post but Im happy.  A mere 26 years since my first glastonbury I'm now tour managing an act on the main stage.  Proof if ever it was needed that drifting through life and mainly getting drunk does pay off.

Currently TEFing from a cabin in the mountains where it's 9 degrees and pouring with rain. Weather was alright the last couple of days though. I think the traditional Wimbledon/Glastonbury rain has hit Norway as well.

Got a funny look when doing a tour of the factory in Germany and noticed a lot of bikes at the rear of the building and, noticing they looked similar to the bikes I had seen the week before in Holland, asked if they were dutch bikes - was promptly informed that they were not and they were also not the same bikes the german soldiers used to get out of holland on, after the war.

Asked for white beer in Poland - which didn't go down to well especially as I asked for it in German as I don't know any Polish....

My tour of Europe is proving quite an education...

In recent weeks I have TEF'd from Berlin but that's about as good as it gets.

it's only expensive if you plan on staying in a city and eating/drinking out or if you plan to do any of the touristy thingies. If you're here in the summer you want to get out of the cities and into the forests and mountains, which is very affordable if you use cabins that belong to the Norwegian Trekking Association, £15ish a night in a shared dorm or £30ish for your own cabin. Trains are cheap, you can get a return from Oslo to Bergen for about £60 travelling in first class. I'm doing a 17 hour train journey next week to the north, above the arctic circle, which was about the same price.

It's a shame Norway is such a horribly depressing place to live for the other 9 or 10 months of the year.

Sonic, I take it you have learnt Norwegian (unless you grew up there?) The reason I ask is that I was wondering what techniques you used and what help you had as I am trying to teach myself a new language and i'm rather struggling.

As much as I get some nice places to go to for work, I also get some god awful ones too.  And at the end of the day, it's work.  Sounds great fun, often isn't, like most jobs.

As above.  Last couple of weekends Ive been paid to work at Glastonbury and Barcelona.  But now Im in Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool and Newcastle over the next 4 days.  Not so glamorous.

I did courses over a few months. It helps a lot being surrounded by the language you're learning as well as having people to practice with. I doubt I'd have been able to learn Norwegian without living here.

I did raise the question, very dignified in their response not that i can remember that much other than they didn't punch me! and then they started talking about Panorama and how 'balanced' its views of Romania were and also about how being a member of the EU meant there oil supply effectively earns them membership and how the Americans were taking their share by building the most expensive roads ever, again, paid for in oil... Touché...

On the plus side Romania came second in the stunners league... Second only to Lithuania who density of stunners snatched the win despite me only using the airport in Lithuania... Third was Holland (mainly because most of the lookers were students attending medical college)... Joint bottom was Poland and Germany whose women just seemed so fucking miserable.

Working from home this week which gives my liver the chance to recover..

Certainly is. We've been staying just outside Dent. Ventured further in on a couple of occasions. I can highly recommend both the area and the local brew.

We are only about 30 mins from the dales in Lancaster and try and get up there a lot, it tends to be quieter than the Lakes and both me and Mrs Horlock07 (who is a Yorkshire lass) like the landscape.

You managed to make it up to Hawes to the cheese factory yet, we had a week in Hawes last year and because it rained a fair old bit we were there virtually every day, don't think I have ever eaten soo much cheese!

Unfortunately not, its foggy and quite cold here today....mind you its lovely and sunny back home 10 miles away so may well go back there :)

Yeah we did the cheese factory a couple of days ago. Cheese superb and loved the many tasters they have on offer. Fridge is currently suitably loaded with cheese to take back with us. Did a walk round Ribblehead today just before the heavens opened. Really don't want to come home and we'll definitely be back at some point. Haven't been to Lancaster this week but looked a pretty nice place (for a town/city) when I came up to Morecambe a couple of years ago.
