Title: On the scrounge - plastic barrels etc
Post by: wiggy on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, 10:27:34
Get my new allotment at the weekend (something which I am sure to mention often) but the site doesn't have any water supply. As such I am on the scrounge for any unused large bins/plastic barrels/water tanks, or lenghts of guttering and downpipe.

Have you tried the Scrapstore on Elgin? they usually deal with much smaller items but a quick call and they may know where you could get some from.
I managed to get some netting to put over my veggie plots from there so it  may be worth you giving them a call.

I've got a spare water butt you can have. You'll have to come and pick it up though, from Shrivenham.

Cool - don't wnt to appear ungrateful but how big is it - would need to make sure the cost of driving from Devizes to Shrivenham and back wouldn't outweigh the value of the butt.

I wouldn't bother, it's rare to go more than two days without it raining.

Will your allotment have a shed that you can attach the down pipes and guttering to?

You could also try putting a wanted request on Freecycle / Freegle  (yahoo groups).

think this is in your area   http://www.freelywheely.com/devizes/freecycle (http://www.freelywheely.com/devizes/freecycle)

Probably not worth the cost to pick it up from Devizes. It's quite small, shabby and without a lid!

I've got one of those old school bins like the pic below, just a bit more weathered. Nothing wrong with it (too good to throw away!!) which you're welcome to if you want it?
