CHAIRMAN Jed McCrory remains hopeful that Alan McCormack will stay at Swindon Town but it appears that the skipper is close to being unveiled by Brentford. http://www.thisisswindontownfc.co.uk/news/headlines/10456724.McCormack_set_to_sign_for_Brentford/?ref=rss Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: Weasel on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 06:25:21 Hope they think he's a full back.

Incidentally do we know who the agent is who is acting for Flint and McCormack is it Mr Spencer? Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: Riddick on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 07:24:52 Only really wanted McCormack to stay as a utility player. He worked his socks off and closed down players well, but his passing was never up to it in midfield and he cost us several penalties last year. Liked his attitude and a loss to the squad but think we can get a better cm to replace without a problem.
Where does he play for brentford?! he's not better than douglas or diagouraga Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: wigglesworth on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 07:35:17 Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: Bob's Orange on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 07:42:56 He's dead to me if he doesn't sign the 2 year deal on improved terms. Why do footballers make such stupid statements like 'if they offer me another contract that's not less than my current deal I'll stay', only to then choose to play for another team in our league.
McCormack and flint's agent is certainly rolling in it this summer. Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: cheltred69 on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 07:50:01 I'm guessing that even our improved terms don't come that close to matching the offer from Brentford.
Not surprising given the budget Brentford have, supported by their Sugar Daddy, as evidenced in the accounts posted here recently. I'm not too upset by this as I'm hopeful we can find an "as good" replacement at a lower cost. Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: Costanza on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 08:20:24 Probably should have offered him two years in the first place...
I'm not going to pretent to know the ins and outs of this but the admission of the improved offer creates a whiff of careless negotiation which could have been prevented. But I don't know how negotiations work and for all we know Town could have offered him 3 years and he was always off to Brentford. I liked how Ned Payne stuck in the 'same agent as Flint' line. Hopefully we'll be able to bring in somebody with an equal amount of drive and effort that he put in. But less dangerous when tackling in the box please!! :) (apart from the Worldy in the home leg play off semi!!) I've liked them, but none of them have been outstanding. If he goes, he goes. The only players I'd be gutted about leaving is Wes and Nate Dog.

AMac, has the security now of something on the table...a bit like Jonathan Douglas a couple of seasons ago. His agent will doubtless be touting around for a better deal, and should it be found he'll be off. I'll hold off my long held opinion on McCormack and his much touted 'versatility' until he actually goes. Agree completely, so many players come and go now as it is the agents that call the shots and no doubt Jed has had plenty knocking on his door touting the next best thing. Would not think it would be too difficult to find a hard working midfielder in the same mould. Where does he play for brentford?! he's not better than douglas or diagouraga Douglas wasn't getting regular games at the end of the season, perhaps they'll move him on? I don't think McCormack was ever likely to stay even if he was offered a 2 year contract on decent money. He and his partner had apparently not settled within Swindon. As somebody said, no player is really that committed to the cause. Not massively bothered, he's been inconsistent this season and at times a liability. What's the Flint situation? Has he gone to City or is it still in the air? Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: Barnard on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 09:55:07 McCormack was a good player in L2, but only average in L1. He was quickly found out as a CB by the better teams in the division and was a bit of a liability at full back. He played well in Central Midfield towards the end of the season but wasn't outstanding in my opinion.
I'd sooner have kept Ferry than him. Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: TungstenCarbide on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 10:39:57 Personally I think McCormack had a pretty mediocre 2012/13 after a great first season for us. Hard-working, combative and versatile Macca might be but he's a rather ordinary 3rd tier player really when you look at it objectively.
Am in agreement with Hertha that the only players I'd be sorry to lose are Fods & Nate Dog. Possibly Collins as well as I think he could score a fuck load of goals for us if given a full season as the main man. Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: Flashheart on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 10:42:08 I remember once season gazzzaa freaking out about this time of year (or later) that we were going down because we had no strikers. He even went to the length of predicting how the season would pan out match by match, he had us finishing last. He was not the only one as others were acting in a similar vein.
We went up us champions. We just lack a bit of leadership and crucially a bit of pace
Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: blinkpip on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 11:50:40 McCormack, may have made a few rash challenges, but his aggression is what we will miss. His fighting spirit and wild burst through the center is what Ill will miss the most.
As long as we sign a few tough players and not all young kids, then we should do ok. The way he seems to set up his teams it would appear a strong midfield next season will be paramount. The fact that it seems very few players want stay here is some what alarming. As with Flint who and what we replace McCormack with will be key. Naturally I'm not going into panic mode yet - it's June but when the time comes we're going to need a lot of signings and good ones to. Title: Re: Adver News: McCormack set to sign for Brentford Post by: cheltred69 on Saturday, June 1, 2013, 14:20:00 Surely the only ones to have chosen to leave are Flint and Macca, both of whom are inevitably leaving to go to clubs with bigger budgets than us, so not particularly alarming to me.

If he's being signed to play centre mid alongside Douglas and/or Diagouraga, that is a seriously combative midfield. |
