If you really want a player to stay, you don't offer him a one-year contract.

It'll be interesting to see if any new players are brought in on two-year deals.

Spot on.  At the age of 33 onwards, maybe.  But not at 29.

See, Greer.

I don't see why he's become irreplaceable all of a sudden.

If Brentford or any other Championship club want him then we aren't likely to compete on wages at the moment regardless of the length of the deal.

Not so much on here but elsewhere.

I don't care if he stays or not.

Still think he'll be harder to replace than people think. But if we can't afford him then so be it. Good luck to him.

It'll be interesting if ANY players are brought in that aren't loans

The amount of players that are supposed to be leaving we'll have to get some non loans in. Isn't there a limit on how many loanees you can have in a squad anyway?!

Fairly sure Morshead has said that Byrne and A Rooney deals are still on

I agree about 'harder to replace'...

For me, the point here is that neither the Chairman or the Manager have expressed a clear desire for him to stay (apologies if I have missed something here).

I'm not expecting Macca to be offered the same or improved terms, but an honest statement from the club on the lines of 'we want him to stay...important player...part of our plans...budget realities means that we can only offer a two-year deal on reduced terms...' or 'not part of our plans...' or '...the club just can't afford to keep him so we wish him all the best...' - at least it makes it crystal clear, instead there will probably be contradictory opinions from club and player and more divisive crap spouted.

I have seen two if not three statements from the club and manager stating that they would like him to stay and a contract offer has been made. At the end of the day, people will choose to believe whatever 'they think' the reality might be.

My devotion to footballers disappeared a long time ago. He either stays or he goes. We will get someone else to replace him - That replacement may be better or worse; long term or short term. But the club will continue (at least for a bit longer).

That's another fairly influential, experienced player to replace. Hope there is some budget for experience in our squad  next year, not just cheap young loanees as I'm beginning to fear.

What with your infamous sauces thought you knew about all our ins and outs before the board did.... my apologies.

I don't deal with guesswork - if I haven't heard about something, I won't comment on it.

We've got Williams, Roberts, McEVeley and Navarro - plenty of experience

Apart from the fact that you have just said you haven't heard about it - yet you have commented on it ?

We went down in '11 with plenty of experience.

Experience, although reassuring, can often be misleading. The important figure this summer, and it feels like he's not been mentioned in ages, is Kevin MacDonald and what he can do with what he's got.

All four players who led Swindon out at some point last season have since left.

Ho-hum.
