WOMEN'S FOOTBALL: Town Ladies boss 'had no choice but to quit'

SWINDON Town Ladies boss Glyn Evans has blamed broken promises from the club’s new board and secret meetings held behind his back for making his position untenable.

From reading that, for once I'd be prepared to give Jed the benefit of the doubt. The complaint seems to be that the move was motivated by a desire to attract more funding, and will have the effect of attracting players from other local teams. So apart from the customary lack of openness in making the change, I don't really see a problem.

I agree with this, however, the issue may well be Jed saying one thing to his face and then going away and doing something completely different with no communication whatsoever - sound familiar

He seems to be complaining that the club ignored the ladies team but now have taken an interest?

Which is more interest than 99% of people who follow the men's team.

First I've heard of this Evans fella, at least he can look for a proper coaching job now

Quote
Evans also believes operating the ladies’ team through Football in the Community’s school of excellence model will also have a knock-on effect to the rest of women’s football in Wiltshire.

“They have basically said they are going to try and turn their centre of excellence into Swindon Town Ladies, and I don’t think the other teams in Wiltshire like Swindon Spitfires and Highworth are going to be very happy about that,” he said.

“All the girls will go there and be part of them, and they will take players away from the other clubs, so it is all wrong.

Welcome to football, Glyn.

I was trying to make sense of this.

I'm not sure whether it is written to try to link the nature of departure of the ladies team manager with that of DiCanio, or not? Phrases such as 'broken promises' and position being 'untenable' were similar.

Calling into question the integrity of the new board was also a bit worrying.

But then, the bit about cost reductions (losing a manager and assistant) while at the same time attracting new money through grants sounded like a logical step - Unpopular perhaps, but without understanding the details its hard to draw a firm conclusion.

I guess the thing to come out of this story is a continued feeling of unease and wariness of the current board.

I did some coaching along side him a few years ago, he told me he was expecting to be coaching for a top 4 premier league side within 6 months.... This is the first time I've seen his name anywhere since.

He doesn't even have a Wiki page, he sounds like a total teapot!

Well yes, but if someone says to you they'll do something, then do something different behind your back its going to annoy you.

Even if from the clubs point of view its the right thing to doi

Like most I'm not too fussed about the decision being taken , but this looks like yet another example of Jed & co saying what they think would be a popular course of action (most likely in absence of real facts) and then totally failing on delivery.

Tbh, I think this is a deliberate s..t stir by a guy who has a lot of agendas; for once i don't think the blame lies at the door of the Board.

Well the consensus here seems to be that Shteve Muwall didn't need to go storming down the Adver offices to threaten legal action. We were intelligent enough to read between the lines on our own.

Go on Adver, unleash the dogs of war on him!

No idea who this Glynn Evans is or what his motives were - but Jed and the board wont win any friends by pissing off people in the community.

Took them 2 weeks to provide one word answers to a bunch of questions and less than 24 hours to respond to a non story.  They are just not very good at this are they.

I expect a statement to be issued refuting your allegation in this post first thing this morning.

It's a bit sad that people feel the need to dismiss the issue of the future of the Ladies team as insignificant.  Whether you choose to watch it, or even have an interest in it is one thing, but the importance of women's football is growing the whole time, and the top teams are now attracting a great deal of interest across the world.

There is an oddity about Swindon Town's excellent Ladies team not having any association with the club, and that is what is being addressed.  I am as critical as anyone of how the Board members have behaved pover the past three months, and extremely concerned about the level of their professionalism, but in this case they have gone out of their way to respond to a perceived wish on the part of those who organise and those who play for the team.  You have to assume that there is another agenda on the part of Mr Evans, and he might want to be a bit more upfront about that....

Having said that, the speed and ferocity of Mt Murrall's response - given the length of time taken to give virtually no response to a very large section of the supporters of the club about important issues - is quite extraordinary.

I had taken Jed's stated commitment to women's football as a positive, despite some of the thoughts of the more antediluvian posters on here, women's football is growing in popularity, and getting young girls involved in sport is a good thing.

I don't know enough of the politics here to pass judgement, but Swindon Spitfires have been around for years, and if there is to be an amalgamation of sides, then I'd hope, the Spitfires name can be taken on.
