SWINDON Town Chairman Jed McCrory admits tough decisions have been made following the news that five players have been released following the end of the season, but long-term sustainability remains the key.

The club will be offering new deals to five players whilst Joe Devera, Raffaele De Vita, Simon Ferry, Tommy Miller and Chris Smith have been released.

McCrory offered his views on the player departures as well as transfer plans for the new season.

“Last season the club operated with a playing budget of £4.5million and that is simply not sustainable,” he said.

“We are currently running at a considerable loss each month, which we were aware of from the outset, but this cannot be rectified overnight.

“However funds and plans are in place to see the club through this period, as we work tirelessly towards a sustainable future across all areas of the business.

“As Chairman my responsibility and focus must be on the wider interests of Swindon Town Football Club.”

McCrory continued: “Despite some good players leaving the club we are very excited about next season.

“The manager feels he still has a good side with some excellent young players, and with a few quality additions, which we are already working on, we feel we can be challenging again at the right end of the table.”

McCrory added his thanks to the fans for their continued support and loyalty.

Can't argue with the need to cut the budget in all fairness. I just hope we don't go soley for young players. Need some experience and backbone to go with them.

If we did ever make a profit in the future, who's pocket will it go in? The Club or Jeds mates?

The club is a business, like any other.

The owner(s) can either reinvest any profit back into the club or take it out for their personal use - as they see fit.

We may not like the latter option much, but there it is.

There aint many altruistic owners who are not in it for themselves

As a customer and as an owner, Football has to be the worst business for both parties...

As a customer brand loyalty is everything and there is an expectataion that the success of the brand should come at almost any cost as long as it doesn't damage the brand or result in it disappearing completely.

As an owner of the club you'd hope to make a profit but when you do your customers expect you to put it back into the business and when it doesn't make any money your customers expect you to put your own cash into the business and when you don't you become unpopular.

Can anyone tell me if there is any reason a sane person would buy a football club?

Well our boys have acquired a club for minimum outlay, get to pay themselves for the privilege, and get to enjoy all the perks of rubbing shoulders with other chancers businessmen. You can even have a post match scrap for which the likes of Crispy would get a ban for and nothing happens...what's not to like?

I understand why you used it but terminology like this when referring to a football club causes me to vomit vigorously.
