Storey's three games to earn new deal

MILES Storey has three games left to prove he is worth a new contract at Swindon Town, and the teenage striker can’t wait to take on the challenge.

Yet another depressing, demotivating start to the day.

And here's me thinking the future STFC team was going to built around youngsters.

With all the talk of cost cutting, it is more than likely he will be offered a deal as he's not going to be a high earner

There's some cunts on here (which i why i fit in) but it's a message board and it would be boring if we agreed with each other all the time. At least i know that even when i get wound up by some of the shit people post we all have the clubs best interests at heart.

The term "cunt" seems to be too mild for many of those who write on thisis though. What world are they even living in?!

isn't that exactly what you have been moaning about?

Me moaning about it isn't going to change what's happening.

If KMac wants (has) to build a team comprising youngsters and/or loan signings I would have thought Storey would have been a part of it. How he's supposed to show in 3 games, in which he is unlikely to play, he is worthy of a new contract I don't know.

Especially as he's been off injured for months.

Just another primer for the fire sale.

Maybe others would prefer he goes and gets in a few quid

Did the article actually quote KMac as stating Storey has 3 games to earn a contract?  Or are people just reading what they want?

The way i read it is that Miles is over the moon to be back in training. He's been frustrated the last few months (like most injured players) and is looking forward to the play off games. As he's out of contract in the summer then he wants to prove he's worthy of a new one. Shock! It seems so simple, but obviously isn't to some. As far as i can tell KMac has said nothing and hopefully has his mind on the play off games anyway and not Miles' contract.

In short people are reading what they want - for a change!

1) Where is it shown that we will have to have a team entirely made up of youngsters/loans?

2) Where does it said he has to do it in these three games?

3) Where does it say he is for sale, hardly a fire sale is it.

I don't know about the adver comments as I just cannot bring myself to read them, but we should not be too superior as a hell of a lot on here is no better!

They'll do what they can to have a moan about the manager or board. There could be a story about MacDonald personally investing £5M of his own wealth so we can keep all our best players and sign other top quality players and the adver comments brigade will still find something to whinge about. Their minds were made up on him ages ago, he will never win with a section of our supporters now, for the simple fact he isn't Paolo Di Canio.

Hopefully he'll make the bench and be used as an impact player (like Villa at home) against Brentford in the 2 legs...for me, a good option to have and a bit of pace as well!

If it wasn't for two tap ins against Villa then people wouldn't care if he wasn't offered a new deal.

He hasn't ever shown much else when I have seen him apart from a poor first touch. Sure he'll get another year anyway.

His comments on Miles aren't the only reason he's an idiot! I think Miles has plenty of potential too, would be well pleased to have him back in the fold for the play offs.

Storey was exceptional v Villa.....and i watched him at Tranmere tear them to shreds untill he was injured.
Energetic and likes to get involved.....hope his injuries dont hold him back.

I'd like to point out that I am not normally a grammar Nazi but if someone says "your an idiot" (or variations thereof) I feel it's fair game.

Back on topic, I agree that Storey is worth a shot and should be offered another year.  I also agree that calling the manager "the corpse" for not having been able to sort out the extension when it was an option is unfair because (a) his hands were probably tied and (b) he has probably never seen the kid play or train.

Nope he's still exactly the same player he was before he got injured to me. I watched him at Tranny and agree with Lee, he was just threatening to do some very good things.

I said at the start of the season i would have been happy with him as our 4th choice striker (maybe not on here but to any other bloke who had the misfortune to listen) and I stand by that. If he's fit enough i think he's a good option for the play offs (must be better than having youth teamers on the bench) and should be offered a new contract on the basis of his potential.

I do think not contracting him would be a grave mistake. No offence to our youth teamers, but we rarely chuck up someone quality. Louis and Nathan Thompson (and to a lesser extent Billy Bodin and Callum Kennedy) are great examples of what taking a punt on giving them a contract can be worth to the club. They won't be high earners, they have roots here, and Miles may just pull something out of the bag we need at a dire moment. It would add some freshness and energy to our squad, which just feels like it's growing more stale by every match.

It's easy to overestimate his impact with him having those two Villa goals, but the second one (his cross-footed flick that confused Shay Given so much he went the wrong way) showed a real awareness, accuracy, and deftness of touch in front of goal that we have lacked all bloody season. If, for whatever reason Kmac has to build a team up around youth next season, then Miles and the Thompson twins are as good a place to start as any.

(I know they're not twins, sssh)

I've talked about my love for Kennedy elsehwere, so I shan't repeat it, but I think he's been pretty regular for Scunthorpe this season- his wiki isn't up to date though, so I could well be wrong. I know they're going down, but one left back can't save a team...

I'd rather of had him than Jmac this season, I'd say that for certain.

I think Kennedy is now playing at his level and dont regret us getting rid of him.

Seems the Scunny fans arent convinced in him either....

Quote
after watching the extended highlights against Yeovil i am now certain the Kennedy is the weak link in the team. he simply cannot defend!

Not sure if the weakest link, however he is inconsistent. The same charge was levied against him at Swindon.

He tore a hamstring in February and will be out for a few weeks yet.

I will agree he was inconsistent at times (although never against 'big' teams), but so was/is Jmac. However, with Kennedy at least when he plays well he's superb. We don't get that with Jmac, just mediocre game after mediocre game after terrible game (I expect someone to correct me with a blinding example of a Jmac performance). Kennedy, last year at least, put in the leg work. Chased down, legged it up the pitch with the ball, linked wonderfully with De Vita, always pressured, always ran, always put a shift in. His crosses were accurate, his passing was accurate, his positional awareness was really fantastic at times. Inconsistent as he is though, L2/L1 is his level. I'm just annoyed we let him go when we only had Jmac to cover left-back. Sure, McCormack has played his part there whilst Jmac has been injured, but he's made too many mistakes in that position over the course of the season.

Didn't we still have Cibbo as cover when we released Kennedy?

I felt his defending was just too weak for a full/wing back and would have been better suited to a wide midfield role.

His crossing was excellent at times but by no means always...I will always remember him trying a long range pass at Yeovil and misskicking it straight to their winger over about 50 yards on the opposite side of the pitch which almost cost us a goal.

You know what, I don't know. Can't remember the timeline of people being released. If there was any forward planning going on, you'd imagine they'd want to keep Kennedy over Cibo. That's what I would have done anyway.

Have I gone into some parallel dimension where Callum Kennedy is a good footballer?

He wasn't great for us. His crossing was good occassionally but generally he was all over the place. With a bit of coaching he could potentially be a decent League One full back but I was never a massive fan, nor were most Scunny fans, nor were Rotherham or Gillingham fans. McEveley is a better player IMO, even with his odd stinker.
