Title: Do you think you have changed over the years?
Post by: 4D on Thursday, April 18, 2013, 21:02:05
I feel I have become a right miserable bastard of late; I was always a bit of a joker in the past but the years have crept up  :).

Have you changed for better or worse?

My belly has got bigger

I think that speaks for most of us.

1995 - "I can't get any heavier than this" Batch, 14 stone 2
2012 - "Oh shit I'm 40 next year and my lads are running rings around me", Batch, 17st 6
2013 - ?  - Batch, mid-life crisis,  15 Stone and declining.

My hangovers last longer
I like walking in the country
I am lacking a lot of confidence I had as a youngster
I have less money
I am better at football (technically), but less fit
I'm turning a bit left-wing

I've turned in to a cynical cunt with a superiority complex.

Although the second bit implies it is exactly that, a complex, when in fact I am better than most cunts.

I must have missed that bit, I thought you'd always cultivated the superior cunt persona.  Maybe it's just the superior cunt in you coming out, it's tough to avoid telling people you are better than them when you are.

Now girls make me think I'm stupid.

:). I went from about 12 stone 10 to 15 and a half in my twenties, then down to 11 stone 10 and was asked if I'd been ill  ???. Then it crept back on and I went to 17 stone, but I changed my lifestyle and sit at 14 stone, happy with that.

Haha, I got asked at the barbers last year, for the first time, if I wanted my eyebrows tidying :D

I now own a personal groomer.

I've all but stopped getting hangovers, which could be a sign of alcoholism I suppose.

My age radar has gone to pieces, anyone over 25 looks older to me, which is concerning as I am nearing 38.  Thirty fucking eight.

20 + years of being 18 stone has left me with a horrible baggy gut still to get rid of after losing weight.  But Im happier now.  Im also suffering from Dennis Healey eyebrows and hair growing on my nose.  And Im a dull fucker who rarely drinks.  Comes with having spawned I guess.  Maybe Ill take it up again when they bugger off to uni or whatever.  Only another 12 years to go.

In the night garden was my cue for 20 minutes sleep on the sofa with the kids watching the programme avidly when they were younger. Very soporific programme.

I'm 52 today and as I've got older I've had a lot of changes. Fat fucker and a reverse Mohican for starters. As others have said hair is coming out of every orifice rather than my head. I've got a lot more introverted and don't give much of a shit about going out other than Town and gigs. I've never really given much of a fuck about what other people think of me and I give even less of a fuck now. My politics have stabilised to the left whereas when I was young they swung from extreme right to extreme left.
I now know my limitations and its good to stretch towards the limits occasionally.
I pretty much live for my wife and kids and I get a lot more enjoyment out of them doing things well than I do from me doing things well. When I was younger, everything was about me, now its about them. I was a right pain in the arse to my parents but I now know that although I disappointed them in many ways, they still loved me as I would my kids if they fucked up.
Sorry to waffle on but started on the birthday beer.

Most definitely. I certainly wish I was the same weight as I was in my twenties with the same amount of hair and the same tolerance for alcohol and late nights/early mornings. Now it is watching the diet, the bald patch growing, too many beers and I feel sh*t for most of the next day and am quite content to get the last bus home.

I am also now Mr Grump with many things that I did not give a thought about when younger - it is a pain being old!

Happy birthday CS.

Weight gain.  I used to have a nice flat stomach pre children.

Whereas Lucien said he was less confident now, I'd say I've got more confident as I've got older.

I'm far less selfish, which probably comes from having children and the need to put them first.

I used to hate staying in at weekends, now it's the norm.  I still enjoy a good night out, but as 90% of the time the next day will be a complete write off, I often turn invites out down.   The thought of watching my son playing football on a Sunday morning fighting the urge not to be sick is less than appealing.  I think back 15-20 years and wonder how I used to manage 3 nights out on the trot, although I did used to stay in bed until early afternoon, which probably changed.

I'm going on a Hen Do next weekend.  I don't imagine I'll feel human until at least Wednesday  :)

And I can vouch for Ticker45 being Mr Grump at times, as he's my dad!

Football has definitely decreased in importance for me as I get older. Becoming less tribal about it and much more tolerant of other clubs supporter's views, as per the Bournemouth lad on the other thread.

Becoming more content with life the older I get, and definitely appreciate the situation I've found myself in / worked towards.
