Alright, alright, I'm fully prepared for the barracking. I was just watching the highlights of the Women's Super League for a 'wonder goal' (not as described really), and, what with the increasing image the woman's game is getting in this country, it got me thinking about the good and bad sides of women's football- i.e. what to they do as well as, (or better) than the blokes, and what needs work/looks out of place.

It's fascinating to me that the passing is often impressive, but the goalies look terrible.

Anyone got any more insightful observations?

There isn't as much diving, cheating, or hounding the ref... all positives. It's still shite though.

Such is the way with a lot of women in professional (and amateur) sport.

The weird thing about the goalie issue is that it's not like women make crap hockey goalies, so it's not like there's a real reason for them to be so bad...

 It's all good...particularly if it gets to involve lots of girl kids in the game, and so helps to take them away from the worst aspects of media/advertising induced...concerns about body fascism and self image.

Similar for rugby and cricket. The one good thing that Jed has said, is that the club want to engage more with the ladies.

I've watched a lot of women's golf by going to the events. I personally think its one of the sports that is better live experience than the mens

-you get to see a lot more
-its more about technique than sheer power
-they don't hit it any longer than I do but they are unnervingly accurate
-They mostly have firm arses and trim tanned legs (excluding the fat munters)

As for fooball, its a bit shit and I concur with the goalkeeping comments above.

As much as I hate to admit it, I reckon Blatter was thinking along the right lines when he said "get them to wear tighter shorts" when asked how to improve the popularity of women's football. They're more than happy to use their bodies to their advantage when it suits them so why not to promote football?

Get some of the fitter players to do some photo shoots. Maybe put one on page 3 in the Sun. And so on.
