Title: Forty odd years
Post by: redjed on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, 01:57:50
Ive supported this team for 40 odd years through thick and thin, cried tears of happiness in good times and cried tears of dissapointment in the bad times. Every time we seem to be going in the right direction something or someone comes along and destroys our dreams, i dont want to be a Man utd. fan, but i would like to see a modicum of success. Lets go back to the 90's, we beat Sunderland in the playoff final, one of the most one sided games played at Wembley,IMHO, we had a team then that if we had remained in the prem then we would have established ourselves as steady Prem team, doing nothing as silly as winning it, but being one of the also-rans in that league, didnt happen , us a small team from the neither neither region of England were made an example of by the Football league.
Go forward a couple of years we have Hoddle with another team that would have done us proud in the prem. dosent happen a certain Mr. Bates turns hoddles head and off he trotted to Chelsea, where he did nothing, just imagine if he had stayed, the team would have stayed together , who knows?
Then we get the Steve Machmon days, we are turned from a classy footballing side into a bunch of cloggers, I love watching football when it is played in the proper way, even when we have lost, i have enjoyed the game because it was played the proper way and the team played to its strengths and have done all they could do to win it, Man City at home in the 90's when we lost 4-3 to them, comes to mind, i can remember the whole stadium giving the town a standing ovation at the end, because we knew we had seen a match where every man had giving his all.
Now i come to the present, we have been spoilt over the last 18 months we have seen some of the best fooball played at SN1 for a long time, and then poooffff its gone, because we now have a manager that is so thicked skinned and pig- headed and seems to think ill do it my way, plays players out of postion , using a formation that isnt going to work with the players that are used to playing in a certain way, it just wont work.
So another dream and that little bit of glory that we all crave is being taken slowly away from us and this time it is so painfull because in our heart of hearts we know now that we have blowm it but we just keep hoping that all will come good. Please dont get me wrong ive been here for 40 odd years and i be there for how ever long that im capable of going to the CG, but as ive already said this season is now turning into a nightmare and i feel like im being tortured again for being a Swindon fan.
 Long may it continue (sic)

38 years here and share your thoughts 100%.
The silence with this "new lot" frightens me to death, simply are they out of their depth.

Depressing.

Reg looks forward to his cricket and I look forward to my fishing.
Football season will come around when it is ready.

Life after PDC just feels depressing however I am not surprised.

I've done 70 even years. But only because the 00/01 season seemed really fucking long.

Cricket season actually started today...and all matches seem to be underway, surprising really as I thought it was still snow bound up north.

You'd have thought a new Board would want to do a fan's forum, fairly swiftly, while they had some credit in the bank. But this failure and the rapid on pitch unravelling has already left them looking vunerable, to a well organised protest.

It doesn't matter if you've been supporting for 40 years, 40 days or 40 hours you'll always be under stress with this club.
