Title: Swindon Town Ready to kick on again?
Post by: paulmc on Thursday, March 21, 2013, 22:14:39
Hi all,  I've added a piece to my blog about Swindon Town which can be read at www.mcnamara-sport.tumblr.com

Not a plug...just letting you know it's there for anyone interested.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Good luck with it.

Good write up that, makes a change that someone from the outside has a few good words to say about us.

Yeah, it's good to know that we need not feel the fearsome hand of past skeletons on our shoulders. Instead, we can wake from the cold sweat of a brief nightmare, and emerge fresh into a genuinely encouraging, and possibly sparkling, future.

Good read and if I wasn't a Swindon Town supporter and lived through it all, I probably wouldn't believe so much could go on at a Football Club.  Minor point though, we lost to Millwall in 2010 not 2009  :)

I enjoyed reading through that and getting an 'outsider's' take on things! You missed the bit about the 1957 debt though  :D

Sorry about the typo on the date of the Millwall game - now corrected.

I've had a soft spot for Swindon ever since being taken to a game against Stoke when I was in the area a very long time ago - think it was late '89.  You won 6-0 and as a young lad I was equally taken by the football and the baiting of Mick Mills and Dave Bamber.

Good read. One other thing

Quote
A deal for Seeback 57 – a company led by local businessman Jed McCrory - to purchase the club was completed three days after the Italian left

It's Seebeck 87  ;)

He's short, he's fat, he's going to get the sack
Micky Mills, Micky Mills!

He duly did get the sack

Stoke fans treated us to a magnificent conga on the Stratton Bank too!

Brilliant game, probably in my top 30, in fact I'm doing my will soon and I'll make sure i add my top swindon games to be read out, and the CC goal and the stoke conga will get a mention before i burn.

Ace. I was in the shrivvy that day, the result  nearly made up for the fact I was  there and back from Newbury on the back of my old mans motorbike with a hangover. Never been on a bike since.

I could do with this sort of sharp editing eye over all my work...thankyou!!

The Mick Mills chant was a delight to my 11 year old ears, I was going round singing that for weeks after.  I'd forgotten about the Stoke conga.  A great day all in...and Alan McLoughlin became a bit of an idol.

I hope you get back to winning ways again against Oldham.

I remember that game. I liked the way the Stoke fans joined in with the chants too, not only the Mick Mills one, but the 'We Want 7!' One.

It was a really good game, Stoke were awful it has to be said.

Also the standing ovation for Kammy from the Town fans when he was subbed was awesome, Kammy said afterwards he was nearly in tears at it.

Look at the quality of the Town team 23+ years ago, the curent team would no be able to live with that fast crisp football even though it was in the league above. It makes me laugh when they say Footballers are so much fitter these days well if in doubt check out the speed in which they tore the stoke defence to shreds

That season was the best football I've ever seen us play and the Play Off Final against Sunderland was the best 90 minutes I've ever seen from a Town team. We 'slaughtered' them 1-0.

Great comments I totally agree with you. Anybody that witnessed that era including watching us under Hoddle wil know that the Football was brilliant and something we will struggle to match ever again. Also I thing the quality of Football has since dropped as proven with the poor England teams over the last decades. The biggest proble is all of the average players from abroad wich have swamped all of our leagues and the amount of money being payed to them on wages

I reckon we will go up as champions on goal difference, it will go all the way to the last day. Coyr
