Title: Help, has my TV got a terminal illness?? Post by: ronnie21 on Sunday, March 17, 2013, 10:40:49 Working fine last night, put on this morning and sound is ok so getting a signal but no picture - just a black screen!! Any ideas or help gladly received, it is on a sky dish and Toshiba manunfacture. Purchased from Comet about six years ago. Anybody got a name/phone for a reasonable engineer in the Swindon area?

Seriously though, I have a toshiba TV. It is 5 years old so way out warranty. I contacted Toshiba, as it had a faulty on/off button and they fixed it Free of Charge. Brilliant customer service. Worth contacting them on the off chance. Title: Re: Help, has my TV got a terminal illness?? Post by: Simon Pieman on Sunday, March 17, 2013, 10:45:46 Have you tried re-tuning it?
Title: Re: Help, has my TV got a terminal illness?? Post by: Batch on Sunday, March 17, 2013, 10:53:16 Is the screen totally dead, or does it come on but stay black (if you see what I mean)? I guess if its totally dead then not much to be done...
Sorry if the following is a bit simplistic: "On a sky dish" - so do you have a separate Sky box, or does this TV have built in Freesat? If a sky box some simple things: - Power off the Sky Box (unplug) - Power off TV (unplug) - Plug both back in If it is a separate box, how is it connected ? Scart, HDMI, something else? - Check physical connection between Sky box and TV - Check nobody has accidentally changed the TV "source", e.g. RGB->svideo Or check another source (DVD player, TV tuner even if its just static, etc) Title: Re: Help, has my TV got a terminal illness?? When I switch on there is a faint miniscule flash and then nothing, sound is fine. Runs through a sky box. Put a dvd on, got sound, no picture!! If it doesn't the problem must be with the TV. If it does then probably with the signal going in. Title: Re: Help, has my TV got a terminal illness?? If there was a problem with the signal I would have assumed I would get nothing, but the sound is perfect and I can change channels and still get only sound!!If it doesn't the problem must be with the TV. Clearly a picture issue in one way or another with the tv itself. A case of getting it fixed or replacing it. There are ways around this problem through house insurance if you have accident cover and someone knocks the tv over ;)

Give 'em a call. Fair play FB. We always used Hickmans and received excellent service, don't know why we went to Comet for the last one, but just found the paperwork out and it is nine years old!! I think going down the new route is ther way to go now!! Thanks guys for your suggestions. Title: Re: Help, has my TV got a terminal illness?? What about the tv remote? Jonny's right, the volume meter would be on screen if the screen worked. Anyway, sounds like it's broked. Title: Re: Help, has my TV got a terminal illness?? Not necessarily. On some connectors the sound is carried over a separate wire from the picture, so a bad cable could cause it. But again, are any TV control displays showing up or not? If they're not the TV is fucked, if they are the signal is fucked. Title: Re: Help, has my TV got a terminal illness?? Post by: ronnie21 on Sunday, March 17, 2013, 20:12:28 Not necessarily. Post by: ronnie21 on Monday, March 25, 2013, 11:08:50 As I know yoiu are all waiting patiently for the update on the fucked TV, we went to Currys last Sunday, purchased a Samsung TV which was delivered and installed on Tuesday morning. Fucking thing was useless, pircture kept freezing and breaking up, couldn't seem to focus on anything moving fast without breaking up, went in there on Saturday morning and after a long rigmarole got an authorisation code to return the set as faulty. Took it back this morning, got my money back and promptly took Fatbashers advice and ordered one from Burden's in County Road, being delivered this afternoon!!
