No chance. Support in the town is too lazy and not interested. Fair play for trying though.

Junior/school football teams would be well up for free tickets. It's a day out an all sorts

I think you may have had a point a while back, but things feel different now.  We'll find out at the Oldham game, I suppose.  I think you're being overly pessimistic though.

Good on them, it can only be a good thing for the club....start the supporters young and hopefully they will come back with parents etc. Plus it will bee good to see the Stratton Bank occupied..

Even if they did it for the remainder of the games this season then I don't think they would be very much out of pocket, extra revenue of food and programme sales, having a near full bank and the possiblity of them returning again with parents/friends is there also.

That is absolutely superb. When it says purchased 2000 tickets I'm guessing that is cash to the club as well?

Excalibur sponsors the Robins as well. A quick search on the Adver site for them shows that they've done a hell of a lot in the town in terms of sponsoring events etc.

Loads of support in the surrounding towns and villages. I know more fans from outside of Swindon than I do from Swindon, I'd say maybe 75%.

Fair play to them and I hope its a complete success.  After how flat the atmosphere in the ground seemed today fans on the bank might make a difference even if its only kids.

could be looking at 10k+ for Oldham then, lets hope our form continues/picks up between now and then!

I am doing a lot of wondering lately.

On this I am wondering if this is an initiative that has been worked on for a while, and started under the old regime, if it is something post-jed or if it is purely random chance that a company has made the offer at this stage.

I don't know what sort of numbers Oldham will be bringing which could very much factor into breaking the 10k barrier.

The Stratton Bank could be filled most matches if they used there loaves a little.....the price has to be right.
If Stratton Bank tickets were say £8 every match they would pack them in.

Yep for sure it would probably take a few from other stands but not that many.....most fans will pay the extra fora better view or to sit with friends....the Stratton Bank would be used mainly by fas who genuinly find it hard to fork out money twice or sometimes three times(if they go away) in a week.
Maybe make it a tenner if you bring a child.

Good on the club for trying this v Oldham.....but it needs a remedy for all matches....and for this to happen it needs a cheap pricing policy which will get extra bums on seats spending a few quid on food and drink etc.
It will also benefit the team i reckon....cannot be nthing worse than scoring at that end and having to celebrate it with a spotty ballboy :D

I'm not so sure, isn't football attendance fairly price inelastic?  I reckon you'd get about the same total attendance but now paying a few quid less and not having a roof.

And herein lies the problem Peter........it is a toughy but it is a situation the club need to look at closely.

We've filled the bank a few times in recent years for home games, I remember a lovely sunny day against Mansfield when we were in League 2. It's a novelty factor though and I can't really imagine anyone aside from a few hardy souls willing to stand there on a wet autumn evening or a freezing cold January day. You might attract people with cheaper tickets but there are so many more factors to it than price imo

nice idea leefer just not economically viable. Club doesn't take enough money already, let alone if prices were cut.

Agree arriba.....but surely the many thousands who would like a season ticket but cannot afford one maybe persuaded to get one at a more cheaper rate..

Its not cutting prices......the other stands would remain the same and to be honest i reckon it wouldn't affect those sales to much.

In fact the more i think about it the more i think a cheap season ticket for the Bank would fill it most matches without harming the other areas of the ground.

Doesn't it take almost 2,000 to fill the bank? I agree that there would be some interest but nowhere near the level to fill it every week.

Some interest is better than no interest....i remember the days it was full come rain or shine.

The reason was it was cheaper.

Football has changed a great deal since then.

Basically, people are softies and won't stand in the rain or cold if you paid 'em.

One of my best friends works for Excalibur, sage word hard but they have fab perks
She has no interest in football at all though!

Were you at Bournemouth or Tranmere...soaked at Muff and freezing at Tranmere...both had stands with cover.

Unsurprisingly I wasn't at either game.

I simply don't see the demand being there to even quarter fill it - those who come infrequently do so because they're only interested for big games/occasions, if we're playing well so on and so forth. It's obvious to see that there are people out there who will turn up and they have done so despite having to pay upwards of £20 which suggests to me that the issue isn't financial.

Our first match in the Premiership we had around 11,000 only at the game(Oldham).....the Stratton Bank was full...and remained full pretty much the whole season.

Basicly with fans who didn't want a season ticket...couldn't get one or just turned up on the day and had to make do with the Bank.
Now i take your point about the weather but i still reckon you could get numbers in if the price was low enough.
I think a cheap option for the Stratton Bank season ticket would appeal to plenty...especially in the Championship.

Maybe hats and Macs are provided for an extra £10 a season :D

I had a season ticket that season on the Bank.  It was a bargain at £156!

At today's prices, that would be £272, or £13 per game.  Where did it all go wrong?

To be fair Ardiles that was fairly pricey!

You can watch from the Townend for about the same price these days!(season ticket)

But saying that you were on about The Premiership....so that does seem a bargain.
