Blaming his leaving on the sale of Matt Ritchie, which is understandable TBH.

No desire to keep Paolo at the club.....according to Paolo.

No chance of a U-turn and him returning.

The NMH rant (boy I've missed this):
-Wont be going back even though new owners
- Mid Feb wasn't in good position
- Kept going
- Matt Ritchie going was main reason
- The way Ritchie went was main reason
- There was agreement that every sale would go through PDC. That didn't happen with Ritchie
- Left club at top of division.
- Why leave now? Was not at STFC for a job but was there to work with people he respected. The last few results were enough.
- He wanted to see a strong desire for someone to keep him at the club.
- On the deadline: It was a mutual agreement between him and new consortium. Nobody forced anyone to sign the agreement.
- Fact is that he didn't receive any phone calls to extend. If he had then maybe he would have extended. Being as no one called by 7pm he decided to follow through with resignation.
- Wont answer about whether resignation accepted.
- Any chance of a U turn by PDC? No for one reason. They didn't say they wanted to keep me. So no chance.
- Chapter at STFC finished
- No part that regrets resigning? No chance!
- No regrets. Only that 'we' brought the club to top of L1. That was amazing.
- Cant have regrets when you cant change things or have maximum power to change things.

No regrets at all about leaving when he did or how he did it.

That interview showed PDC saying he was bigger than the club. He would have stayed if the new board had kowtowed to him and given him 'maximum power'. They didn't, so he's not prepared to go back.

A bizarre ending to a strange chapter in the club's history. But, at the end of the day, the club will be going long after memories of PDC have faded away.

Its so hard to tell what thoughts are in Paolo's head, I think you could be right that his thoughts may not tie up exactly to what he says.

But yes time for everyone involved to move on now.

I didn't quite see it like that, but he's drawn the line and that's that. I think he's put the lie to the idea so many seem to have that the new owners were just powerless, innocent bystanders in his departure though.

Thanks PDC but its done now. We need a new manager, and the right one, and this is what is now important.

I'm getting a sense that PDC wanted assurances that the bigger budget would be back in play, I don't think anyone wanted to cave in this time.

Lets look at it this way, a half decent Manager and some new loan signings should put us in a good place to see the season out and probably be less money than that raised by Ritchie and what we would have spent on PDC on top.  Sort of stealing all of PDC's thunder.

Trick of course is doing that.

We'll never know what went on with Paolo and the new board, the very fact that he had a deadline with the new owners over something that they didn't have any control over is just baffling.

Contradicting stories and obviously both have their own agendas on how they want to put the 'official' versions of events.

In the end Jed and co. have probably saved themselves a few quid over Paolo leaving and Paolo will now be free to take reins at another club whenever he chooses.

We have to get a new manager in place asap and strengthen in a few areas and try and get promotion, we still have a hell of chance to go up!

Not as baffling as the fact the new owners willingly signed up to it too… unless, of course, they recognised it as their get out of jail card all along.

To summarise my thoughts as this chapter comes to a close:

He was up amongst the most exciting managers we've seen here on the field and undoubtedly the most exciting off it.
He was a fucking nightmare to deal with for probably one of the most patient and forgiving boards in our history. For these reasons he will miss out on a lot of jobs he is tactically good enough for.
His commitment to his job as a manager and the commitment he demanded from his players was unprecedented.
His inability to forgive players for sometimes quite minor misdemeanours make the possibility of a career in top level management potentially problematic.
His loyalty has always and will always be to himself and the cult of personality he has built around himself everywhere he's been.
This cult of personality, for all the criticism it gets and the problems it caused and the sometimes arrogant and blinkered way it comes across in interviews, was above all what galvanized the fans and revitalised the club after it felt like we'd sunk to a new low after relegation to the bottom division (see Bournemouth and Paul Groves for what happened with similar financial backing but an opposite personality).
I believe his passion is sincere and in the heat of the moment he genuinely feels a deep connection to the fans and his players, even though he is capable of jumping ship 24 hours later and transferring that passion to a new fanbase and set of players without batting an eyelid.
This is hard to comprehend for most fans. It is hard to comprehend because he is a nutter whose head it is very difficult to imagine being inside.
The was one of those sublime eras at a club that lurches regularly from the sublime to the abysmal season to season.
We draw a line under this era now and move on.
We have some fantastic memories to take away from his tenure at the club.
I will give him a good reception when he returns to the CG with another club and i hope other people will too.

Fair point, and post '89 I was there to see it all. Spending my paper round money to follow us, which in hindisight was a good lesson in life. Never forget the Hoddle season and McMahon's promotion campaign, but really, really? A saga like the which Paolo has given us is a once in a lifetime. And I see posters wrecking this era. Shameless.

I don't think the majority of people are - the way he left just leaves a bitter taste and goes against all his principles he has been going on about the last 21 months.

I think town fans in general are just pissed off that when the going gets tough people leave and this has happened time and time again.
