Title: Swindon Town FC v Bury FC Official Matchday Thread
Post by: Shaw Rosso on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, 00:00:30
The Opponent – Bury

A few days have passed since the last time we met, and finally we have new owners. Apart from the pitiful live coverage of the press conference by BBC Wiltshire, I am now cautiously optimistic for the future. Sure we have a long way to go, Swindon Town fans know as well as anyone that things may seem rosy one day, but the next we find ourselves knee deep in shit. I am glad the ownership issue is now resolved, it was something we really needed to move on from. Red Jed certainly talks the talk, (you know the rest). It seems he has put together a consortium that has football in their blood, which is always a good start. Obviously time will tell if my optimism will be rewarded with a self sustaining club playing attractive football in The Championship.

One thing that has made me smile is the bookies odds for the next STFC full time manager. Has anyone on here actually placed any money on this? Perhaps once the new board have announced they are seeking a new manager I can understand, I will have a few quid myself. If by chance we wallop Bury 6-0, will McCrory be in such a rush to employ a new manager and backroom team? Or will it be a play it by ear policy? Either way, as ever, the next few days, weeks and months promise to be an interesting chapter in the history of Swindon Town. There is no doubt about it, the next appointment has to be the right one.

Anyway, we move on to a night under the lights at the County Ground. The unbeaten run continues, even if it was maintained with a non too convincing draw against Hartlepool, and tonight’s game against Bury is the 4th team in succession we have played from oop north. I wasn’t expecting to find out much about Bury it has to be said, and my expectations were met. Oddly enough, Bury share their home of Gigg Lane with FC United of Manchester, the team formed in protest to the takeover of Manchester United by Malcolm Glazer.

Bury is regionally notable for its open-air market and its popularity has been increased since the introduction of the Manchester Metrolink tram system, which terminates in the town. The market is known for its supply of a local traditional dish, Black Pudding. To think some people sneer at those who enjoy a bit of pigs blood and bone when they eat Tesco burgers.  One of Bury's most notable residents was Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and founder of the Metropolitan Police Service. A monument to Peel is outside Bury parish church and another, the austere Peel Monument, stands on a hill overlooking the locality. They never had one of Ted Heath in my home town of Broadstairs for some reason although I am sure the residents of Witney will all club together when Cameron pops his clogs, soon. It was announced on 26 September 2012 that the board had hired Kevin Blackwell as permanent manager, and his appointment was widely regarded as something of a coup for Bury. Blackwell began his tenure with a 2-2 draw at Stevenage followed by a 1-0 home loss to ourselves prompting him to blast some of his players as 'garbage' Long may that continue, or for today at least.

What are they saying about us? –

Seems the most popular Shakers forum is pre-registration just to view, Christ they must only have a handful of members. Although this gem from Twitter warmed my heart.

“With Dick Caneo thretning to go we gotta chance tomoz”

I wonder if anyone has told him yet?

Bury Last 6 – DWDLLL (Currently 22nd in League 1 on 37 points)

The Irrelevant Facts
– Bury have just been placed under a transfer embargo for the 2nd time in 3 months which has left manager Kevin Blackwell ‘frustrated’. What he may also find frustrating is the 29 goals that Bury have conceded away from home so far this term and in the same time they have only picked up 2 wins.  They have also only managed to keep 2 clean sheets on their travels so far.

The Threat -  Schumacher. Not the big chinned German but Steven, who has found the back of the net on 9 occasions so far this season.

Head to head – A good record in our favour  W 21 D 11 L12

The Odds – Swindon 8/15    Draw 10/3   Bury 6/1  If you are looking for better value than the 8/15 then it may be worth considering is Draw HT Swindon FT which is 10/3 most places. With Simon Ferry set to miss out through an ankle injury (and toothache), Alan Navarro could be set for a start tonight, if you fancy a bit of a long shot he is currently a best priced 14/1 with SkyBet.

The Son Says – Have we got a manager yet Dad? No son (repeat every hour or so) he did manage to fit in a 4-0 prediction though.

The Prediction - Not the romping some may be hoping for I feel. We need Orient to nick something off Danny Wilson’s lot tonight too. I am going for 2-0 with goals from Rafa and A.Rooney in front of 7’925 of which 146 will make the long journey from Lancashire.

And Finally – Back in the 1990’s Bury’s commercial manager was none other than the father of Gary and Phil Neville, the wonderfully named Neville Neville!

If Bury defend like they did on Saturday, we should create enough chances for even Williams to get a shot on target... think we might scrape a 2-1 win.

Good to hear Ferry might play. Hopefully Williams will be out on the wing (in place of De Vita), Rooney up front. Thompson back in, Jay Mac out.

3-0, without playing particularly well. Please get the TE in full voice John, I fear another library-esque atmosphere tonight.

I did, but he misses nearly every chance he's presented with. With De Vita off form, his pace would be useful down the flanks. Rooney seems to know where the goal is at the moment.

Could we see Luke Rooney for a bit on the left wing? That might be good.

3-0 tonight I think, need to get 3 points.

De Vita was poor on Saturday so maybe L Rooney will start? I'm pretty sure that Roberts played LM and Rooney RM for their clubs before joining us so maybe would be more effective to accommodate them both?

Rafa was fine against Tranny so I'm not really buying that he is off form.

Unless Rooney has turned into a superstar during his absence than Rafa is still the far better option IMO

Yes would be good to see L Rooney start on the wing in place of De Vita, who's been poor recentlly.

They award themselves highly paid salaries, they don't appear to be too fussed about appointing a manager on a salary, can't see any new players coming in, can see plenty going out in the summer.

And I wonder just where the incoming transfer money will end up.

Not been able to get on much since Thursday as I've been away, good to know that not much has changed since then after the Press conference and Saturday's game.

From where I'm sitting we're still 13 games unbeaten and 2nd in the league as far as I'm aware, and have now finally been taken over by a group who at the very least have staved off our potentially much more rapid demise. I'll reserve a fuller judgment until they've had more than 5 seconds to implement whatever their vision of the club might be and/or we start sliding down the table.

Until then I fancy a 2-1 win tonight and I'll see some of you cunts at Coventry  :)

Maybe because you don't back it up with anything? Anything but childish mud slinging would suffice.

Nope, definitely meant to post it here.

As for the game, we'll lose 1-0. 89th minute o.g.

Again, a perfectly reasonable question - with the same answer.

We have absolutely nothing to base our opinons on - viva Jed, or tosspot Jed - hence people have to base opinions on what they feel may be happening.

The sooner the incoming lot actually say, and do, something tangible and not just soundbite bollocks the sooner we all can make informed opinions

No, of course not - cos they haven't said or done anything. You just feel - or hope - things will turn out well.

I just happen to have the opposite view based on the same lack of information.

Anyway, bollocks to this, I'm off to the CGH

Nobody has said all will be well.

Those that are not doom mongering are simply saying we need to know more before making judgement. Saying that things could be ok is a lot different to saying things will be OK.

I don't have an opinion that 'all will be well' or otherwise yet. I'm waiting for some more information and facts before I draw any conclusions. I'm somewhat alarmed by the refusal to identify the anonymous backers, who have been described as "businesses" and now "family guys". Are they individuals or businesses?

You appear to be taking the lack of information and twisting it beyond comprehension into a gospel truth that everything is and will be fucked.

Personally I would have prefered Macca in the middle with Miller and bring in Thompson at RB, but we don't know if any of them are carrying injuries or what they have trained like TBH.

It does look more defensive than when Ferry is fit but we are lacking players currently.

Was really thinking in terms of midfield, ie Ferry.

Would like to think L Rooney could come on and make an impact, but not having played first team football for months and not training with the squad until last week, I would be very surprised.

Let him prove me wrong though! :)

With Ritchie gone & Ferry injured you do worry about where the creativity is going to come from.

Miller & Navarro work hard but I'm not convinced they have that creative spark, so a lot depends on Rafa & Gary Roberts but they are both prone to drifting in and out of games, which is one of the reasons that we seem to hoof it too much.

We looked better once we got a goal back (thanks to a defensive mistake) on Saturday, but having not got the first goal tonight I have to say I'm more than a little concerned.

Irrelevant to whether we win or not tonight a Navarro and miller cm partnership is one reason why a ward and miller management will not work. Mates picking mates and you need an outside view. Wtf is Thompson not playing never had a bad game whereas McCormack has only turned up for 2nd halves in the last month. This was all highlighted before ko. It's going to fuck us big time if we don't get players in ASAP, maybe a loss tonight will wake the board up into urgency

Early still this evening, and has been a very difficult 2 weeks for the players.

This 2 man player/manager thing was never going to be the way forward. Regardless of the outcome this evening they need to get moving on a new manager.

I understand the players wanted it this way as the team is used to something quite different to every other team as a result of the PDC regime, but they are going to have to adapt and move on.

if this is how we are going to start playing then i don't think we'll even make the playoffs
It certainly sounds worrying. From what I've listened to this season, it appears that we need to score the first goal. If we do that then we tend to score lots. If we don't then the team doesn't seem to be able to adapt and starts to panic. The last few games (I missed Tranmere) seem to mark a different pattern. We have seemed to be poor.

Start? We've been playing badly for awhile now. In the Hartlepool game it was a little embarrassing how well they passed the ball around compared to us, and since John Hughes has gone in there they are making a great stab at avoiding relegation.

We've been functional this season as opposed to good to watch and its worked for us.

I'd like the new manager to be a little more flexible in the system he plays. PDC was 4-4-2 or nothing apart from late one game i remember him going 4-3-1-2.

Navarro has done very little for us this season and the brighton fans predicted it. He had the best 2 years of his career there playing as the deep mid player in a 3 man midfield.

Williams as much as he tries is not going to be a real goalscorer. He stretches teams and has good delivery, surely would be worth a try in a 4-3-3 as one of the wide players.

Disapointed with the performance fair enough, but to indicate that the reason for the performance is because the new board are promoting a sustainable model? Would you have preferred we carried on spending, got promoted and be out of business in 12 months?

Agree completely, but blaming the new owners plans of promoting sustainability for a poor performance, or even a poor run in for the rest of the season is a joke, surely you realise that.

If you want somebody to vent your spleen at, try PDC.  It was his choice to leave when he did.  I am sure the momentum would have continued if he had decided to make his point at the end of the season rather than with a dozen games to go.

The PDC rant - Guest starring Tommy Miller:
- Poorest performance this year. Rubbish throughout.
- Very disappointing
- Complacency maybe from the lads. Don't know. Not at the races
- A lack of everything. Didnt create many chances if any
- No urgency nor fight
- Wouldn't thought we were second in the league
- Fantastic opportunities. Lads say they want promotion but they are failing to deliver
- Got to look at everything. Tonight wasnt good enough. Miller and Ward to have a chat. It needs looking at
- No doubting player effort but quality wasnt there. Maybe it needs a different voice from outside that will motivate the players
- Difficult with 2 players on pitch instructing players

Miller sounded very down !

We have some very, very average players here and the job PdC did making them a top 2 outfit shouldn't be under estimated.

Great to see Luke Rooney back in the fold replacing the once again ineffective De Vita who really is a Low League 1/League 2 player if we are being honest.

The cheer when Navarro went off said it all - what a horrible evening for him - shite from start to finish and he needs to lose some weight. Him and Miller at centre midfield does not work.

Lets hope the new board aren't as Mickey Mouse as they seem and they either get on the phone to Di Canio or appoint a new manager and quick. No time for a long search because we will be out of the picture by then. An old head till the end of the season will do.

For two matches running we have had very little idea apart from lumping a high ball up to the strikers, and for two matches running they have been beaten to the ball in the air every time.  Tonight, as last Saturday, we were far too predicatable.  Didn't really start playing until the last 20 minutes, but the biggest problem was we just couldn't pass a ball to our own players.  The number of times we had possession, time on the ball, and still couildn't find a red shirt!!  Navarro was awful, Macca not far behind, Flint won most things in the air but could not find a red shirt.  Worrying times!

That was fucking woeful. No football played, and everyone apart from Thompson and Luke Rooney looked completely devoid of confidence. My player-by-player comments are as follows:

McCormack - audible laughter at being awarded MotM. Unfortunately for us, he won't be dropped as long as we don't have a manager, despite being a terrible full-back, out of his depth at centre-back, and on tonight's showing, no longer an effective midfielder... having said that, he was marginally better there than...

Alan Navarro - he can't tackle, shoot, pass, or even effectively harry his rivals. Looking like he played with an anchor attached to his balls, he was so late to every second ball that he couldn't even foul anyone. Couldn't anticipate his own birthday.

Actually, fuck it. I can't be bothered to go through it - just know I thought virtually everyone had a poor game, most notably Williams, De Vita, McEveley, and Miller (as well as the two previously mentioned). We were clueless going forward, unable to string three passes together, and hoofed it aimlessly for the entire match. The crowd reaction didn't help in some cases, but it really was a bad performance - only potential silver lining is that we can't possibly carry on with Miller/Ward - it does not, has not, and will not work.

Title: Re: Swindon Town FC v Bury FC Official Matchday Thread
Post by: Gnasher on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, 22:18:52
My god, who were those players? A disorganised clueless rabble who's main aim was to hoof it as hard as they could. Are you seriously telling me that Navarro is a footballer? Absolute fucking shit. Jay Mac lofted 200 balls to a yellow shirt - we really are crap when ever he plays. Miller was terrible and Roberts was back to his absolute worst. At least Collins tried and the two Rooney's looked like they cared. The rest just plain dogshit.

This feels like the end of an era, and a new dark cloud is developing over the county ground. I really hope they find a decent manager and fast, but I won't hold my breath.

Tonight was beyond woeful at times. Feel sorry for Ward and Miller but it's time for the new owners to get a manager in who can see us over the line.

I didn't realise Malpas had been reappointed manager. Thats the second game in a row we have played really fucking awful sides. Its also the second game in a row we were second to every ball. Totally clueless, no bottle, no fucking idea whatsoever.
Yet again williams was a useless, lazy, disinterested cunt. For the 3rd home game in a row Macca cost us a goal. Also, take a bow Jay Dog - fucking tripe. Collins, ward, flint and the subs at least looked as though they gave a shit. Now for the real dogshit award of the night - a toss up between Miller or Navarro. The latter shades it by being even fatter than I am and is totally fucking incapable of passing either a pie shop or the ball.
Now we'll see what the owners are made of. i bet PdC is pissing himself laughing.

And I'm sure others have expressed more eloquently than I quite how crap and disjointed the whole thing was. But I hope I'm not the only one to feel utterly embarrassed at the complete lack of class some of us showed in jeering players off. Yes they were shit. But they know that and that really doesn't help. At least wait till the end of the game and boo then if you must.

That side tonight will not even make the play offs. I dont want to repeat the slagging some of the players have got on here - but I dont disagree with what anyone has said.

There is no creativity in midfield, toothless upfront and from being a real tight-arse defence we now look like making at least one howler per game.

I think the transfer window closes 3 March which gives no time to get a manager in let alone for him to recruit the 3-4 players the squad desperately needs.

Confidence has been shot - which I suppose I can understand given what's been going on.

Why Nathan Thompson isn't one of the first names on the team sheet I dont know.

Both Rooneys had decent cameos.

Is it decided to play hoof ball or are the players so desperate to get rid of the ball it just happens.

One thing is for sure - whichever 3 teams eventually do go up this season are going to really struggle in the Championship.

Tis a poor League 1 this year

I'm more annoyed by our fans than the permanence, we have played as bad under PDC but today after the first misplayed pass and all you hear is constant moaning, no wonder the players didn't want to pass it foward if any player tried to do something and mess up they wold get constant abuse. Navarro who has been out for a long time coming back to start his first game, yes he wasn't great but to actually jeer him off? That was a joke. Then to wrap it up booing at the end? We had a poor game but to boo a team that are still in the playoffs and if we won would have been top.

I know it's people's money but what's the point in coming if all you do is moan can't be fun.

That was proper shit.

We have been proper shit under Di Canio, and so I don't think that you can say it would have been different with him still at the helm BUT....the atmosphere has changed around the place. Things were going badly and it felt like the place was just waiting to let out collective groans. This is the reason we need the right manager, now. We need to get belief back to the team, fans and, well, everyone.

Onto the match. From early on Bury were stronger and looked dangerous on the break. And so it proved as they broke with pace and an average cross from the left was turned in from close range. After that they sat back and were reasonably physical taking advantage of a weak ref.

Yet for 35 minutes of the first half out best plan was to lump it onto their big centre back pairings heads. For 10 minutes we worked out that this was a shit idea, but didn't know what to do instead.

Second half was marginally better. In the 78th minute we even managed out FIRST shot on goal. In fact we had a couple more after if you count Rooney's speculative overhead, and Flint's header which was too close to the keeper. Our final chance went when the lesser spotted Rooney (L) who beat the keeper to the ball, then passed it into the side netting on the stretch.

Williams confidence looks shot.
Collins looked stronger towards the end but was ineffective through most of the match.
Roberts was OK, nothing more.
De Vita looks to have lost his way.
Miller was poor.
Nevaro was Pook on a bad day.
Macca was pretty poor, but at least he tried to get into the game and play the ball.
Flint was probably MOTM but still hoofs too much, or heads it to the opposition when he had enough time to have a picnic then control it.
Ward was fucking shit for the first time in ages.
McCeverly is slow to pass, and when he does he seems to think the opposition are his team mates.
Wes had nothing to do really, but took another shit free kick.
Rooney A struggled to get into the game, mainly because there was 0 service.
Rooney L didn't get much opportunity to do much. Played a good ball into the box, should've pulled the ball back after robbing the keeper.
Thompson looked positionally ropey at first but improved and looked reasonable going forward.

All in all this was as bad as we have been this season, but we've been this bad before. The danger this time is there is nobody in charge to bust some balls.

What a spineless performance ......no spirit, passion, fight, discipline and tempo........ unless we get a Manager in the next week or so and 3+ loan players very soon  I fear our season will go south. A new manager will be able to make the hard choices to drop players, as there is no way Nathan Thompson should be a sub at present.
Saturday  I would start with Luke Rooney and drop De Vita, lets hope Ferry is fit again as I fear will be torn apart with a Miller - Navarro pairing.

The fella next to me said the performances against Orient and Colchester were worse than that tonight?

Hard to believe - but we've played some crap even with Paolo

I'd say tonight possibly just shaded it.  However, you are correct, we had some crap performances under Paolo, particularly at home against teams at the bottom.

The crowd reaction did seem extreme both during and at the end of the game.  I think much if it came from the turmoil of the last week or so catching up with people and people realising that as somebody mentioned, our season could fizzle out to nothing.

Can anyone honestly name more than a couple of players in that team who are actually capable of playing decent passing football and have the ability to change a game?  That's part of our problem, too many average players who overachieved under Paolo probably due to fear.  Now he's gone, they've got no direction and are distinctly average again.

I"m not sure what the chances of a new manager being in for Saturday are, but it didn't seem like Miller wanted to do it for any longer and it's not really fair to expect them to.  Something needs to happen and fast or the games will tick down.

Yep! We'll just move on. Down the fucking league.
For all those on here that said good riddance to Paolo and lets move on, take a look at Prestons and tonights performance. We are REALLY moving on.
Do you honestly think we will still be in the playoffs at the end of the season after those performances. Yes there is life after Paolo but it aint happening in the right direction. The man took all his backroom staff plus the players confidence and commitment with him. Fucking shower of shit tonight and I dread to think what's going to happen at Coventry. I've been supporting Town for 25 years and you know when you have an influential manager that is going to take you places. That's why I put money on Town to win promotion again. Looks like I wont be winning this time.
Even a new manager may not introduce the enthusiasm that Paolo had to pass on to the players and fans. We've really missed that in the last two games.
We've had crap performances under Paolo but not for a while that's cost us the game.

I'd like to point out that it's a complete mystery where we are going from here. So it's understandable people are worried.
Understandably Ben, the last 2 performances haven't been good and I can see why people are worried, but some of the constant negative comments during tonight's game and after it are way over the top.
A team that is sitting 4th in the league with 1 defeat in 14, got booed off the pitch tonight, yes it was shit but for fuck sake.
Again, Navarro, yes he was shit, but he started only his (I think) 2nd game in a few months, he's bound to be off the pace, don't slate the poor cunt.

Just got back, that really was dismal.

I do feel sorry for the players, with all the upheaval of the past few weeks, their management team both being on the pitch and no one to guide them from the sidelines it is very difficult for them.

We lacked organisation, creativity and desire. A coach/manager is essential ASAP so that Miller and Ward can concentrate on doing their jobs properly and just to generally pick the players up a bit, they look deflated.

Our squad is also paper thin, we need a couple of loan signings just to give us a bit of depth. I would also like to A Rooney start on Saturday, his past few performances have been promising.

But my biggest gripe of the night is the window licking thundercunts who make up a proportion of our fan base. Cheering players as they go off the pitch? Come on, is that really helping anyone? Navarro's confidence must be shot to pieces, especially after a while out.

Yes, it was an awful performance, but a lot has happened in the last few weeks. We need to get behind the team and support them to help them get back to way we know they can play.

Roll on Coventry...

That was pretty shite wasn't it?! We haven't played very well at home most of the season against teams lower than us in the league! Navarro was shite and I didn't rate him in the games before he got injured either, I do hope he comes back stronger though, Ward had his worst game for a while, McEviley was woeful and his distribution/crossing have got worse, I can't remember Miller touching the ball, Williams confidence has gone, Flint needs to take a bit more time, McCormack was all over the place, Collins huffed and puffed and Roberts wasn't very good this evening. Thompson, Rooney L and Rooney A tried to get into the game and arguably were our 3 best players this evening.

A paper thin squad, no manager and a trip to a club 5 points off the play offs Saturday...worrying times! That said a lot has gone on the past few weeks, so hopefully 3 or 4 reinforcements will appear shortly, a manager should be appointed and results were kind to us again this evening! 12 big games now between now and the end of the season, lets get behind the lads and do our part!

I actually thought the crowd was very patient and supportive with what was an utterly abject performance tonight. Anyone who watched that and still thinks Di Canio was nothing special is a lunatic.

Sat in my North Wales hotel room....thankful as fuck that I missed this shite.

Big games coming up.

coventry will come at us and that will probably work in our favour.

I will be there....whoever the board or manager is ....I will be here next fucking season.

Might send in a letter of application tomorrow.

I've still got one I wrote (but never sent) for the England managers job.

I'd just like to point out that we are 4th in the league, 3 points off top with a far greater goal difference and have 1 defeat in 14.
You'd think we were in a relegation scrap reading some of the shit on here the passed few days, yes tonight was shit but talk about over reacting.

I'd like to point out that poor performances shouldn't be accepted regardless of league position.

All eligible players asides from Chris Smith have been selected, we we still can't name a full squad.

Best get busy on those loan signings.
What's the harm in putting Smith on the bench, may as well have a full bench even if he has no chance of playing.

Well that was awful, to not have a shot on target at home until the 80th minute against a bottom 4 side is unforgivable. The fact that all of our home defeats have been by the same scoreline says a lot about the mentality of our players when we go 1-0 down. In a way I'm glad that we are playing the top sides away from home because in the past few months our better performances have been better away from home, at home we just play hoofball (which I don't understand).

Foderingham - Only had 1 save to make, can't fault him.
McCormack -  Woeful, not a RB. He's been the weak link in the last few games. I laughed when he was announced MOTM.
Ward - Solid as usual, without him we would ship a lot of goals.
Flint - Won a lot of headers but his distribution was poor as usual, HOOF.
McEveley - He's been very disappointing for a while now, tends to just go for the long ball.
De Vita - Anonymous, another player who's been poor for a while.
Navarro - Shite, doesn't even deserve a mention.
Miller - Far too slow, the game passes him by. Struggling to juggle his 2 roles.
Roberts - A standard Roberts performance, you see a good player in there somewhere but he doesn't show it yet again.
Williams - Stick him on the wing. Fantastic at taking players on, but woefully inept in front of goal.
Collins - Worked hard but lacks the pace to take on his man or chase loose balls.

A Rooney - Deserved to start, showed more than Williams and Collins put together.
Thompson - Another player who should be starting, came on and got stuck in, typical performance.
L Rooney - Looks slightly out of shape but a good option to have back in the squad. Needs a bit of time to bed back in.

If we don't have a manager in place by Saturday I'm not feeling too optimistic about our chances, we desperately need Ferry back too. I think we start to see now that we have an average squad of players, Paolo was the one who took them to the next level. How many of our players do you think could play in the Championship every week; in my opinion only Foderingham, Ward and Ferry.

I'm still rather looking forward to Saturday though, bring it on.

Ward - Solid as usual, without him we would ship a lot of goals

Agreed with every word but those above. Ward was woeful, couldn't win a header, passes to the opposition or into touch, poor positioning.

The exact opposite of everything he has been for the last 14 games.

We had some woeful performances this season while di Canio was in charge and we bounced back.
It's hard to tell at this stage if this was just a one-off bad game or if this kind of performance will become the "norm". They played without any confidence or leadership and it was painful to watch.
The second half improved somewhat, but we obviously need an experienced coach/manager in before Coventry to get the confidence back and bring some shape to the team.

Shamefully I chucked a few quid on bury just before kick off.
2 managers and a captain on the pitch with nothing in the dug out and ferry out was too tempting I'm afraid. That situation should never have been allowed. Shambolic sums it up.

The players looked clueless out there, no patience in possession and played hoof ball without any creativity from the first minute.

We need a manager fast, we've still got a hell of a lot to play for and it's still in our own hands.

Reading this thread and without any seeming management direction (the words clueless and lack of shape set alarm bells ringing) I fear that we could be on the end of an absolute thrashing on Saturday. Added to that Leon Clarke is in great form for Coventry

A shame as before all of this debacle I would have been confident of beating both Preston and Bury, and getting at least a draw from Coventry.

You can say what you want about PDC and there are about 6 threads about it, but his preparation and attention to detail is clearly second to none and I think we can see in the last 2 games, his loss has been massive. (evidently he had some input for the Tranmere game).

Sad thing about the performance in the context of everything else that has been happening is that the players are the one group that don't deserve to have abuse hurled at them.  I don't know that the mess can be blamed for what happened - I guess to the extent that it in some way left them without the glue (PDC) which made it all work for the past five months, it can.  But it was the players who asked to be allowed to continue without a manager for the time being, so we must assume that they believed they were perfectly capapble of holding it together with Ward and Miller's guidance.  But something was very wrong.  I don't think it was lack of effort.  It was much more lack of discipline, which is the di canio byword.  Interesting that it was the younger players who in the end did better - Thompson, L Rooney, Flint, Collins-ish, and actually I thought de Vita was OK too - his contributions are easy to underestimate....

We definitely need someone to take charge quickly.

Nice to see the shackles came off now that Paolo has gone.......Roberts and Alan Mac allowed to play there own game
What bullshit.
To be fair i thought Alan Mac gave his all.
We need some fresh young faces to push a few players that is for sure.

The highlight of the night was the left side and the right side getting their respective handbags out for the 2nd match in a row. Roy Walker and baldy big ears off the crystal  maze were spitting feathers. They (4 of them) were singing we want our paolo back! Shame he didn't feel the same about us.

My broken winning laptop is to blame for tonight :(

The more they push us, the more we'll wind them up.
