If there was any chance of Di Canio coming back, these kinds of stories wouldn't come out...although it is a bit of a non-story

Indeed. Nor would the club have let matey off the Football League Show into the manager's office with a - no doubt hastily erected for the cameras - 'wet paint' sign on the wall. Nor, indeed, leaked the non-story of Paolo's late night visit in the first place.

The club has been running what is little short of a smear campaign against Di Canio since he left in a seemingly successful attempt to turn the fan base against him and against his return. I wish they would stop. Clearly the new owners never wanted him here - but there is absolutely no need to belittle the job he has done over the last two seasons, which has been immense.

I've lost track of the number of times I've seen this comment here and on Twitter. How exactly is it clear?

Perhaps I didn't phrase that very well, but they let him walk, didn't they?

They may do, of course, and have decided that what's best for us is not Paolo Di Canio. I do apologise for continuing to hold a contrary opinion.

He was at Broome Manor playing a round of golf with a few of the other first team players on the day he was sent home.

I don't know.

Jed says he tried contacting Palo.
Paolo says no attempts to contact him were made.

Paolo quit because his 5pm deadline passed without the takeover being completed - unless I'm mistaken the new consortium had no control over that.

I agree that it doesn't appear that Jed & Co pulled out all the stops to keep him at the club but think it's far from clear that they wanted him out or let him walk away. The fact they negotiated a deal with him the days before he left would suggest they were keen on keeping him.

Perhaps we'll get some clarity today... here's hoping...

I'm not sure that proves anything...it has been admitted that some damage has been done when removing items - a quick paint job afterwards is not unreasonable. A 'wet paint' sign is inevitable therefore as a disclaimer.

Di Canio was complaining about hostile environment for last 8 months or so. Do seem to have been a lot of leaks to press about various things ranging from cctv pending administration since Wray pagged his bags. Sad that 21 months of working his bollocks off for us appears to be dismissed within a week of him buggering off as just some over excitable nut job that we can no longer afford to indulge.

But regardless of any agenda, the paint should have been dry by Saturday morning ;)

If that is indeed true then there are no excuses, Paolo was right in stripping him of the Captaincy.
