Quite right Arriba, we've all done things under stressfull circumstances that we regret, and anyone who says they haven't is a liar. I blush crimson at some of my recollections. Paolo's actions were justifiable, he gave his life for us, and call it as you will, but therein befits the actions of a genuine character/lunatic. The like of which we'll never see again.

After thinking about this whole episode, the more I think Paolo was right in the way he went about getting his 'things' from his office.

If he had turned up during normal office hours there would have been a media circus outside the CG - apart from him probably not wanting to bump into any of the players/staff.

If he acted alone then i'd think he wanted privacy to ponder his thoughts etc. If he had company as is alleged then that makes it strange but still understandable.

How anyone can defend his actions is beyond me.

What he did was wrong and illegal, he's lucky the club didn't report it to the Police and press charges.

If he wanted items back he should have asked the club for them or sent a friend to pick them up. Or he could have done what everyone else does when they're about to quit their job and are likely to be escorted from the premises - get everything you want the day before.

Obviously it's not the crime of the century and there is a funny side to it, but that doesn't make it right.

That's a weak argument at best. He'd resigned, shouldn't have had the keys, shouldn't have let himself in, shouldn't have damaged anything - if he wasn't doing anything wrong why did he wait until 1am to do it? People are making excuses for him, if it was any other manager they'd be ripping him to shreds. Though I agree about the papers, not sure it was really a newsworthy story.

As a manager you need respect, to lead by example and be professional. Doing this just makes him an even bigger joke.

With no obvious damage done from the outside and no police involved, how did the Mail and Sun get hold of this event? Especially as the Advertiser with an inside source only picked up on the story once it was leaked?

It's possible the Adver did have the story and chose not to run it until others picked it up, or were requested not to.

I just read the story as Paolo letting himself in to the club at 1am and taking some personal possessions.

Though I reckon he was pissed up. This is the sort of thing that is a really good idea at 1am when you're drunk, but not such a good idea when you wake up in the morning and the previous nights events start coming back to you. We've all been there.
