Title: Sir William Patey - A Thank You
Post by: Dr Pierre Chang on Thursday, February 21, 2013, 19:14:19
I am sure that I speak on behalf of all Swindon Town Football Club supporters when I say that Sir William has done a fine job in his short tenure at the club. He was brought in by Andrew Black to do a job and he has done it superbly - a quick sale while at the same time getting along brilliantly with the manager and endearing himself to the fans.

It's a real blow to see him step down but it has been a real pleasure to have someone of his calibre and power connected with the club and he can leave with his head held high.

I just hope that Jed can do half the job he did. Any club that gains his services in the future are in for a real treat.

Sir William - We Salute You.  :beers:

It's quite obvious that he's being sarcastic, anybody who can't see that is a fool.

He did his job.

Think the OP may be having a giraffe though.

His job was to sell the club, which he did. How did he sell the club badly?

Because in the process he cost the club its greatest asset. Perhaps that was always part of the plan.

That's not true. He was also employed and paid by Swindon Town Football Club to do the job of chairman, not selective bits of the job. The lines of communication to all and sundry under his tenure were shocking. Though I did enjoy his BBC Wilts interview when he sounded like he was knocking one off.

If his sole task to sell the club, then he blatantly lied just after being appointed.

Was he?

I wont lose any sleep over him going myself and am quite pleased to hear he wont be about any more. But I do feel as though he is being blamed for events that were completely out of his hands.

Was he ever at the club after his first week? I saw him once on the pitch away at Stevenage with a cowboy hat on, but after that not at all. Lines of communication with the fans were piss poor during the takeover also... Pleased to see his short chapter of turmoil is over, close the door on your way out Patey you utter pissbitch.

I don't blame him for the events, other than being incommunicado.

He's gone now. A footnote.

Statue of Patey to be unveiled before the game, donning his cowboy hat riding on the back of Andrew Black with an STFC tie for a lasso.

No...we, the fans, are still here...

Every club has fans, we were the only club that had Paolo Di Canio.

What good would Paolo Di Canio be if he had no fans at the club. What a ridiculous thing to say.

Until he got a better offer, he thought he was bigger than the club, he wasn't and we should all move on.

Ironically his departure has led to the return of a proper bonafide legend.

He came to do a job.

He did it.

I really don't see that there is any more to say about him or why anyone would have any strong opinions about him either way.

Andrew Black@bertthebold
Sir William did an amazing job for which he will never get full credit. I am hugely in his debt

What a man.
