Would this be classed as a none paid roll? Just thinking about the FL and takeover restrictions.

Pretty sure we can take on non-playing staff regardless of the takeover. I'd expect this to be paid but on non-contract terms.

FL control who we play as they register players, thats why they can control the loan issue, I suspect that theres nothing to stop us loaning players, we just can't register them (except Leeds could when they were between takeover and FPP so no idea).

We can employ anyone we like, but I assume Diggers couldnt turn out as a player.

There's something real romantic about this appointment. The old hero comes back to help the club in it's hour of need, and all that.

This is why people want ex players as managers. Digby was a fine player for us no doubt - but as far as I'm aware he has no qualifications and has only ever coached 'professionally' here short term whilst also being commercial manager. People seem really happy about his return regardless.

I understand we are desperate and this is a short term stop gap but over excited I am not...

Our Wes don't need no coaching, he'll be teaching Fraser a thing or two. ;)

At the moment, he's a temporary standin for a couple of weeks while the new owners get round to sorting out a backroom staff because the last lot of "professionals" fucked off and left us in the lurch, really professionally. I reckon he'll be able to muddle through.

b) We are riding high at the top of the league

c) Bar one casualty, we have got an immense squad that will now not be broken up

d) The STFC "fuck 'em" siege mentality will see us through (as shown on Tuesday)

Fraser was brilliant, and I wouldn't go as far as saying his kicking was poor, but it definitely wasn't above average!  Other than that he was fantastic.

He was consistently brilliant as well. Was very, very rare for him to make a mistake.

Never had the privilege of watching him live unfortunately, too young. All the same it will be nice to see a club legend involved with first team affairs, albeit only for a short while.

Wes is the best keeper I've seen at Swindon, better than Digby, Flowers and Given.

There is another one who can do the same. I'll nip over to the Woodlands Edge in me slippers and see if he's there and ask him to lend a hand, there's a good chap.

500+ senior appearences, 400+ as a Town player. Definitely the best Town keeper I have seen (Wes is getting there) in 30 years or so. That makes him more than qualified and would take that over some FA cone gathering certificate any day of the week.

I am absolutely delighted he is back at the Club and I think your last comment is odd and in fact extremely disrespectful.

You are quite correct. It wasn't me.

With regards to ex-players as managers - my view is judge them on their ability, nothing more, nothing less. Don't employ them because they are an ex player, equally don't not employ them because they are an ex player. It should not be a deciding factor.

With regards to Digby, I really don't think there is anyone better to be coaching Wes right now (and the other lad). The fact that he is local (fairly cheap probably) and a Town legend is a bonus.

Downsborough, Digby, Wes in that order. Wes could yet move up. If Brez hadn't broken his arm and we didn't have that useless cunt Granville? as goalkeeping coach.

Came back in 78 with Bradford. we fucked all over them and lost 1-0 thanks to Mr Downsborough. the TE chanted his name all game and chaired him off the pitch at the end of the game.

Digby was a brilliant keeper though. Don't know why he didn't get more plaudits.

Height was the only thing Given lacked! I really think Wes could play for England one day, but yes he's young and still learning.

I don't really even count Given. What was it, 6 games on loan? Yes he did well, of course he did but I don't think he comes into the conversation really.

I was lucky enough to spend a bit of time with Fraser and his family whilst he was playing for us and although his wife was as daft as a brush he unlike lots of other players seemed pretty switched on. i Remember when he was dropped for a game or two and the fans chanting his name in a mini revolt which he really enjoyed. Glad he's back if only temporary and if we can stay up there at the top and he plays a part, it will be quite fitting for him.
