Don't understand the sick joke thing, sorry.  Missing something, probably.  But all I can think about here is a beautiful 30 year old woman lying in a pool of blood with a bullet hole in her head.  And her her boyfriend...who seems a like a great guy at least on TV, pulled the trigger.  It's stomach churning and horrific.  So fucking tragic it could be Shakespearean.

There are going to be a lot of people devastated by this and - granted - not many are going to be reading posts on a Swindon Town message board.  But this is a public forum.  You never know who is going to come across this.

Wait for the truth to come out, but I'd be inclined to agree with the tragic side. The theory postulated by the media is entirely plausible in a nation with such a high murder rate. Large numbers of people in the US are shot by mistake by family and friends, it can only be higher in South Africa. We'll see, it's tragic either way.

What a sad and tragic end to a magical, awe inspiring career. When I saw on Sky News this morning “POSTORIUS SHOOTING”, I thought someone had taken a shot at him. The case will clearly be around “the 4 shots”, if you fire 4 shots, the intent is to kill whether it was an intruder or his girlfriend or what, If he fired one shot to take down  the assailant, then he may have got off to continue his life as it would be deemed self defence. 4 shots is shoot to kill. Such a tragic story.

Re: the link I posted earlier in the thread. Oscar would appear to be a very protective guy of his love interests, though it involved a completely different woman than that in question. Threatening to "break the legs" of someone he suspected was having an affair with his ex-love interest is not going to do his defence any good.

As someone who grew up in South Africa, I can relate to the defence theory of saying a burglar was breaking in.  Unfortunately, the reality is, in the Gauteng Province (Johannesburg and Pretoriaare both within this), there is a HUGE crime rate.  In fact, Jo'burg was at one stage the murder capital of the world. 

fortunately, not all of the country is as trigger happy, with the Western Cape being somewhat safer (of course, there are areas that are still dangerous), but on the whole, if you lived in Gauteng, every bump in the night would have you reaching for your gun, that conveniently lies next to your bed, as you would be living in a state of apprehension thinking someone would break into your property.

As a bloke who doesn't really want to kill anyone during my life, I find it weird to think there are people out there that would shoot first and ask questions later, unless your life was 100% in danger. By that I mean if someone was in my house without permission and I had a gun or a baseball bat or a knife to hand, I don't think I'd just go for the kill and then worry about the repercussions later. Perhaps shoot, hit, or stab to hinder their chances of damaging me or the family, but not go for the kill.

Obviously I'll never know unless I was in that situation, but to shoot someone four times, without being 100% sure of knowing I didn't know them or thinking if I don't shoot them they might kill me, seems a little OTT and worthy of the fuzz pressing charges.

This is the thing for me also.  Maybe if he was really unsure he'd have shot her in say the leg or arm?

Hope to fuck I never find myself in a situation like that, but you have to make the presumption that anyone who has gone to the trouble and expense of buying a gun, and then keeps it by thier bed while sleeping, probably does not think twice about unloading 3 or 4 slugs into an intruder.

Being totally honest, I think I'd shit myself if I woke up to find an intruder in my house. Then I'd shoot the cunt as many times as I thought neccessary to make sure he was dead.

I'd like to think I'd be composed enough to avoid one area, the head. Don't get me wrong if I felt my life was in danger I'd more likely be in survival mode and just do whatever.  It's all hypothetical as like I say I haven't got a clue what would happen in reality.

What I found unusual was how it was first reported as a tragic shooting with Pretorius appearing to have acted in the mistaken belief that his g/f was an intruder.  It struck me that OP's "Max Clifford" figure had got in very sharply.  Compliant and gullible reporting by the Beeb and others for uncriticalling aping a public relations hypothesis rather than reporting the actual facts.

Fortunately, actual juries are traditionally expected to listen to all the evidence and facts and stuff rather than just leaping to conclusions based on partial information, half-arsed reporting and media conjecture.

Or maybe (as in the case of OJ), they will be bamboozled by expensive lawyers into letting an obviously guilty man off.

He then saw that Steenkamp was not in bed, he said. That was when he realised she could have been in the bathroom, he said. The bathroom door was locked.

He said he went to the balcony and called for help, and then put his legs on.

He said he opened the toilet door by smashing it with a cricket bat. Steenkamp was alive inside, slumped over, he said. He took her to the bathroom, called paramedics and tried to carry her downstairs to get help, he said.

He tried to revive her but she died in his arms, he said.
