Title: Pancakes Post by: FatSmurf on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 15:40:18 1. How do you make them them? I know its flour, egg, milk but I'm looking for the perfect recipe and best tossing technique! :girlgiggle:
2. What are your favourite accompaniments? I know its boring but have always favoured the simple lemon and sugar combo. Not a big fan of the European influenced banana/ nutella shite! Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Arriba on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 15:43:14 buy 1 get 1 free from the co-op ready made. works out at 2 quid for 16 and they're lovely. Lemon juice and sugar the only thing for em
Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 15:53:01 Golden syrup.
I once tried Marmite. I'm a Marmit lover, but trying it on a pancake was a pretty horrific mistake. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: No Longer Posh Red on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 16:09:15 Add grape jelly to the sugar & lemon
Title: Re: Re: Pancakes Post by: Batch on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 16:10:14 Savoury, or maple syrup. Can't stand lemon juice and sugar pancakes
Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: blah blah on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 16:10:51 I experimented a bit this year, got some apple sauce and drizzled some of the kids toffee sauce (usually used for ice cream topping) on top. Was surprisingly good :I'm a complete mofleakin Deak
Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Honkytonk on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 16:13:04 Flour, milk, eggs. Literally chuck them all into a bowl/food processor and whisk them until they form a batter, like making yorkshires or what you see being put on fish in the chippy- should be a bit gloopy, and nice and smooth.
Cooking/tossing technique- heat a little bit of oil (butter'll burn) in a small, non stick pan. When its just about to start smoking, pour in your batter, swirl it round so It's nice and thin. I normally refresh the oil once every 6/7 pancakes, but it should be fine if youre using non-stick. Flipping them, you want to push the pan away from you slightly whilst flicking your wrist. Maple syrup and squirty cream is the best. Apple sauce goes really well with that too. (I made roughly 700 last year for an event, so am not having any this year as I'm sick of the sight still) Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: reeves4england on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 16:14:52 Going for some savoury salmon and cream cheese as a bit of an experiment, reckon it'll be nice. Then I've got blueberries and honey as well as lemon and sugar for some sweet ones to follow!

In fact, all days. That is all. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Saxondale on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 16:27:35 Made pancakes for the family today. None for me. 4 stone gone in a year, another half stone to go. Back to a shitty soup now.
Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: yeo on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 16:31:23 I gave up my diet and cancelled my gym membership. 8)
I'm not overly arsed by pancakes though. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: jonny72 on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 16:36:14 1. How do you make them them? I know its flour, egg, milk but I'm looking for the perfect recipe and best tossing technique! :girlgiggle: I use the Jamie Oliver recipe - an egg and the same quantity of flour and milk (a cup full works well). Cooking them always turns to shit for me, can never seem to get the right temperature. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Chubbs on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 16:37:40 Made pancakes for the family today. None for me. 4 stone gone in a year, another half stone to go. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Samdy Gray on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 17:10:13 nothing wrong with a treat once in a while What he said. One or two pancakes isn't going to hurt. I've eaten terribly whilst off of work for the last week and a half. Back tomorrow though, so I'll be stuffing myself with pancakes tonight before the healthy living starts again tomorrow. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Saxondale on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 17:18:48 I know. But im in the determined phase. Once im back off of work and able to go back to the gym Ill treat myself then. There is some kind of method to my madness. Another half stone and im no longer 'overweight' according to official figures. Somewhere I havent really been since the age of 12!
Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Abrahammer on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 17:27:45 Is it illegal to make pancakes tomorrow?
The fuss people make over today is staggering. If you like them so much then you would make them regularly during the other 364 days of the year. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Simon Pieman on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 17:33:23 Has DMR stopped pretending he's a bit of a lad then?

Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Peter Gibbons on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, 21:06:19 I got drunk and had a dominos pizza. When I was a student we were lucky to get a "pizza" made from the end crust of a sliced loaf, a slice of cheese and some tomato purée put under the grill. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Honkytonk on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, 21:44:35 £8.50 for a large meat feast. Can't go wrong. Those things mess up your insides. I think its the grease, but I never felt right the day after eating a meaty domino's. The words sluice gate were used often in my old house to describe their effect. Soon as I switched to ham and pineapple, not a problem. Anyway, back on topic... Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Samdy Gray on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, 21:55:45 Fruit on pizza = no no.

I know I know but I acquired a taste for it in my childhood. Blame my parents. Also, to be pedantic, isn't tomato a fruit? (I KNOW someone is going to get EVEN more pedantic and go 'Actually a tomato is a cytoplastismricle, not a fruit') Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Batch on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, 22:12:23 Fruit on pizza = no no. The more meat (and cheese), the better. Disagree with that when it comes to pineapple. Fish on Pizza, in particular anchovies, people who order that should be made to live in France.. Soon as I switched to ham and pineapple, not a problem. Anyway, back on topic... I get the same, it's the sausage I think - rancid. Get any other pizza with a good amount of meat on it and you don't get the same issue. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: mystical_goat on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, 22:36:32 I find Papa Johns pretty rank. Dominos the same too, except for
THE TEXAS BBQ It's a magical taste sensation. Think of other classics like duck, hoi sin and pancakes, or the majestic combination of flavours in a roast dinner, or english breakfast. Dominos Texas BBQ is up there with the best. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: sonicyouth on Wednesday, February 13, 2013, 22:58:38 Papa Johns is wank. Dominos varies massively from place to place, the one in Cov (open 24 hours a day, poppickers) was greasy and dismal whereas the one that opened in Kenilworth was about a million times better.
although this may be the difference between eating pizza at home in the evening and eating a pizza at work at 3am Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: SuggWillSugg MBE on Thursday, February 14, 2013, 03:03:38 Do they still have the 'Mutley Plain Special'? Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Batch on Thursday, February 14, 2013, 07:39:04 Papa Johns is wank. Dominos varies massively I've always found Pappa Johns massively superior to Dominos, better bases fresher topping. But they are expensive without an offer, and I'm the only person in the entire world that likes their special garlic sauce. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Bob's Orange on Thursday, February 14, 2013, 09:02:45 I only had Papa Johns in India. Perhaps not the best place to sample their pizzas!
Loads of really good Italian restaurants in Luxembourg which do much better pizzas than the generic chain muck being discussed here. I think the only thing special about that sauce is the person who decided it was fit for human consumption. :) Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Simon Pieman on Thursday, February 14, 2013, 13:31:19 I only had Papa Johns in India. Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Peter Gibbons on Thursday, February 14, 2013, 18:59:33 I think Dominoes pizza would have to be up there in my "death row meals"
I completely understand that it is junk/chav food, probably mass produced with cheap ingredients. I have eaten some expensive meals in some posh restaurants (if someone else is paying) but there is something indescribably amazing about a Dominoes. As far as chain restaurant food goes, only GBK comes close. You got one of those in Swindon? Edit: apparently not (http://www.gbk.co.uk/find-a-restaurant/?search=swindon) Title: Re: Pancakes Post by: Honkytonk on Thursday, February 14, 2013, 19:09:12 If we're going to start talking about 'gourmet' chain restaurants, Byron is fucking great. It's only in London (that I know of), but their shakes/burgers/sweet potato fries are fucking immense.
